    Hi all,
I'm looking for a truck and the Tacoma has made the short list. It's a truck for my daughter, but I'll be the one buying it and using it periodically, as my daily driver (C7 Corvette) isn't too good at hauling anything other than itself...I was hoping I could get a rundown of anything to be aware of as I look for a truck. I have my eye on a 2016 Tacoma SR5 2WD with the V6, but am still shopping and open to suggestions.

I learned a lot in the Corvette forums before I bought that and am optimistic that Tacoma owners will share some knowledge with me now.

A few questions are: Is there anything I need to be on the lookout for? Problems with specific years, engines, etc.? Any issues that are known to you all but I wouldn't be aware of?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Like, so many.
A lot of people stay away from the 16 because that was the first year of the current generation and all the bugs weren't worked out. However, I owned one and had no issues at all. Resale value will be very high on a Tacoma.

Simply make sure that the rear diff recall work (gasket replacement, if even necessary) was done and that the transmission is on the latest programming. The factory programming for the 2016 tranny was a dog, but the new programming is soooo much better for both performance and mileage. It holds gear better on hills and is getting at least one empeegee better on city driving.

Other than that, my 2016 has been phenomenal. You looking at a DCSB, DCLB, or AC for her?

Thanks so much, no open recalls on it, so I'll make sure it was done. It's leveled with larger wheels and tires too. It's a double cab short bed.

Understand that if she's driving that around, she's going to attract the boys. Keep it loaded and handy IFYWIM.

Not a lot of 4WD available in Florida, but I see your point and I don't want to spend that much right now...

Nothing wrong with a 2016, get it flashed with the update and enjoy. I’ve had mine since late 2015 and it’s been very enjoyable and I’ve got 117k problem free miles.

2018’s might be a a couple grand more but you get the safety features standard.

Adding to the later year safety considerations above as well as considering the driving style your daughter will utilize. Unloaded pickups can break loose under certain conditions; newer trucks have ASC Active Skid Control (or whatever the correct acronym is). She prob already drives the vet and is used to that possibility. It's a good plan. Oh, and Welcome.

LOL, she has driven the Vette all of two times...with me in it...I'm dumb, but not crazy. :) Good point though, will definitely consider that as I go forward.
