TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

I'm late to the party but, as others said, a Craftsman 5 TON RATCHETING PULLER does the job nicely. There are others that might work, but this one is sized to fit where you need it to.

 

Small update to add in OE sized direct replacement 54mm tensioner pulley and Mishimoto 160* thermostat replacement has been added to page 1.

 

Just to be extra thorough in case that I missed it, you have bolted this up to a 1GR before? I am considering this as an option, since I am currently fairly deep in the engine bay modification zone.

 

What about belt conditioner? I assume it's safer for belts being that it's made for them, but can it cause slipping on the supercharger belt?

My last supercharger belt developed cracks at around 50k miles so I've been using the belt conditioner on the new one as a preventative measure, haven't noticed any slipping but I'm usually not hard on it after I've applied the spray for a little while

 

I never bolted it up. I just compared the two T stat housings to determine they are the same. However, I am sitting at 106K as of right now on the original thermostat assembly and I have been thinking it is time to replace my original, so I may replace the one currently in mine with one of these myself if anyone wants to hold off until they see a physical install and results on my own truck.

Belt conditioner is a no as well. That stuff does more harm than good and will only mask impending issues or cause ones that were not there in the first place.

I felt so dumb. I followed the link to the Tundra tstat and then proceeded to email them about making a 1GR specific one. After contacting them through their site as well as a direct email (for good measure) I started perusing their site. Lo and behold... this. LOL

I haven't heard back from them yet. But, I'm sure they'll be amused at my oversight. Duh.

Apologies if I missed it in the wide-ranging and rapid-fire discussion of how to spend more money on our trucks but, is this a direct replacement for us or are additional modifications required for it to fit?

 

What is the part number on the thermostats that urd sells with their adapters? Thinking of dropping to a 160 when I do the csf radiator. I'm sure its a genreric thermostat just don't know what it was originally designed for to look it up.
EDIT: prefer not to buy through URD as $50 for it seems pretty high.

 

This is 100% a direct replacement to OE, no modifications will be required to fit it.

It is highly likely that information will never be disclosed to you or us at that. He is stingy with his info like that.

 

It sure looks like it. There's only one part number for 1GR thermostats across all USDM models.

 

I’ll sell you mine. It’s a motorad, i can find the part # later if you want. I bought it on Amazon, but I am going to go the mishimoto route since I don’t already have the urd adapter plate.

 

Some of his stuff comes with part numbers on them. Like his external fuel filter that has "napa part # XXXX" right on it

2003-2004 4Runner 1GR's are nearly identical to ours. Intake cam gears are slightly different. That is the main difference.

The 2003-2004 4Runner T-stat housing will bolt straight up.

 

Damn, well that's good to know. Only used it a few times since I got the new Gates belt so hopefully it hasn't done any harm.
