Did a search.... when I accelerate , even slightly, there is some play in my driver’s seat. This occurs when I brake as well, on occasion. My truck has 200 miles on it

If I sit in the seat and rock back and forth , I can feel it. I cannot repeat this on the passengers side. It’s similar to the issue described here : https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/loose-front-seat-back-2016-tacoma.468706/

    Has anyone found a fix?

    Thanks

Is the seat adjustment locked in position? Any loose fasteners?

Well get someone to sit in seat and rock while you look for movement. That would be my next step.

Thanks guys. Tried all that, but will try again in the morning. I posted more so to determine if there was a TSB or if this was common.

Had a similar issue with my 16’ SR5. Acceleration, braking, going up or down a hill, would make the drivers seat back move back and forth about a 1/2”.

Very irritating. Truck was CPO and Toyota replaced the seat assembly. Good as new, no more movement.

Toyota seats are notorious for this. I've owned 3 Toyota trucks and all of them have had some play, to varying degrees. My new '19 has a tiny bit of play (~1/8th inch) back and forth on the tracks, as well as some in the seat back.

Thanks man. I’ve learned to live with it, vs the dealer swapping out the seat of a brand new vehicle

My passenger seat does this. Took it to the dealer the week after I bought it and the service advisor said nothing they could do. Checked out a couple other ones on the lot when I picked up my license plates and they did the exact same thing.

I have owned 11 Toyota pickups since 1977. Four of them have had either play, squeaks or rattled. Fortunately, my previous 2016 and my current 2019 are fine.

OP did you ever solve this? Trying to decide if it's even worth bringing my 600 miles TTRD OR into the dealer if they're just going to tell me all of them are the same.

I found a way to "hack" the seat to get rid of the play. It involves just *slightly* twisting the seatback. Here's what you need to do:

    1) Sit in the seat like you normally would while driving.
    2) Reach back with your right hand and grab the back of the seat like you are going to pull the seat back forward.
    3) Now with your left hand lift the seatback adjustment handle like you are going to adjust the seat.
    4) Carefully lean back into the seat with only the left side of your back while also pulling the back of the seat forward with your right hand -- You don't have to push or pull very hard, just a little bit.
    5) Slowly lower the adjustment lever down while also moving the seat back forward or backwards just a tiny bit until the adjustment handle drops into place.
    6) If the adjustment handle drops all the way down into place then you need to repeat steps 2-5 again. Ideally, you want the handle to drop about 3/4 of the way into place, this is the setting where you will get no seatback play. You may have to do this a few times until you get the feel of it.
    7) Once you have it set, test the seatback to make sure its securely in place by putting your weight into it a few times.

And you're done. You should now have zero seatback play.

Nice! What a great write up this looks great. I'll give it a try when I am back at my truck. So the seat is kind of being hacked into being sturdy? It seems if the lever is only going 75% of the way down then it's not where it should be? Not that that's necessarily an issue.

It may take a few tries to figure out find the sweet spot in the engagement point, but you will eventually know how to find it pretty quickly. Good luck and enjoy. Report back if you can with results.

I did not. But I’ve found readjusting the seat gets rid of it

I’m with you, hate bringing in my truck to the dealer. I won’t even let them change my oil

I think you would have more play time in the back seat...don't have to fight the center console.

This worked like a charm! Thanks for the detailed “hack”. I wonder how long it will hold?

If it’s under warranty, I take it to the dealer. I’d rather they potentially break it than me haha
