I am going to be up at Lake Tahoe for a few days on vacation.

Can anyone give me some information on an easy dirt trail to play around on.

Looking for something very light and easy since alone and first time off-road with family.

    Thanks

Tell people where you are going and when they should hear back from you to let them know you are okay. Expect no cell reception either.

Being stuck is no joke, I'm sure you'll be fine on any fire road but it never hurts to let someone know where you're headed.

Especially with your family being there as well

He has a stock truck and what reads like zero experience.

@Taco Silver i think your best bet is to find yourself a guide/wheelin buddy. And maybe this trip, just play with the fam at all the touristy places. Getting stuck in an unfamiliar area, with little skills in recovery is not a good idea.

Someone suggested letting people know where you are going. Listen to them. It’s important.

    Definitely no Rubicon.

I was just thinking nice fire road a few miles in and a few miles back so not too concerned about safety since heck I could walk out.

Hey man, thelastlatin was trying to be helpful. And he's right, tell someone where you're going.

If you want to show the kids and wife something cool, drive up the fire lookout at Martis Peak.

Have fun, do good, be kind.

Rubicon from Tahoe side starts off as a fire road that is stock friendly

If I may make a suggestion. Look for the road that takes you to the upper and lower Palisade Lakes. A Prius can drive it. But most don’t. It can lead you to an area that has beautiful lakes that are within hiking distance.

But there will be tons of traffic on that section at the moment as event season sets up on the ‘con.

If you are in Tahoma....look into the trail that takes you to the top of Mt. Watson (just north of Tahoe City). Lots of easier trails to play on back in there. Have fun.

Closest fire roads I'd suggest are behind Kings Beach off 267: https://goo.gl/maps/Kd9XnRAu745ssGDu5

Just take that turn off, and there are fire roads that dip down towards the lake etc, and put you into the neighborhoods below. I've done it in with my stick taco, so you'll be all good.

Also, someone mentioned Boca, great spot. Prosser, north of truckee on 89 has an HOV area, as well as some nice fire roads that loop around. If you have time, head down to Reno and check out Peavine Mountain. I took a date up here one time (totally didn't get laid) but the trails had everything from basic stuff to some semi-technical stuff that a stock truck could do: https://goo.gl/maps/UzoEoS8sNBGaGnvJ9

Worth the drive IMO, also, if you have happen to mtb at all, the peavine trails are sweet.

Thanks everyone - will do some research based on the comments - pretty close to Kings Beach so might try the one off 267.

Forgot about Barker Pass Rd. about 5 minutes from Tahoma towards Tahoe City. Nothing crazy, just turns into a dirt fire road and sets you up for Blackwood OHV area. Got pretty far out there last summer, not sure if they have cleared any fallen trees etc from the winter. Worth checking out though!

    Turnoff: https://goo.gl/maps/mWiMeyXkMxURfreb8

    fire road: https://goo.gl/maps/6rchQwJsh1DggHnK9

Also a shooting pit out there, if you have any thing that goes pew pew
