So the Toyota financials are out today, and the Tacoma seems to keep selling like hot cakes. The Tacoma just had its best first half and quarter.
    https://pressroom.toyota.com/toyota-motor-north-america-reports-june-2019-sales/

In other news, the Colorado's sales plummeted almost 23% last quarter.

edit: the title should be best ever first half.

At some point there's going to be a big "OH-OH" when re-sale values plummet because the used Tacoma market is saturated.

Things will get interesting when dodge gets back into the midsize as well as Mitsubishi. Nissan might refresh the frontier or just let it die, Ford is gonna refresh the ranger, and Chevy will refresh the Colorado. A whole lot of interesting is gonna happen in the next few years

I doubt the Mitsu will have much of an impact in the segment. Mitsubishi is basically dead in the US.

When is that going to happen? Tacoma has been the segment leader for over a decade and yet, at no point did it falter from it's top resale value ranking.

It will be interesting to see the Ranger's figures whenever the second quarter numbers come out.

I don't have a crystal ball, it's all speculation... but there's always a tipping point. But it's pretty easy to understand that if the market does become saturated, used Tacoma values will come down. Toyota best maintain highest quality standards, because clearly that is what has kept re-sale values high.

Of course values come down. And go up. Ebbs and flows of the free hand marketplace. But your original post said values will PLUMMET. That has never happened and no indication that it ever will.

I think it will take another year or two for the Ranger to hit its stride (again). I've seen only one around here.

But haven't you seen the auto journalist reviews? The Tacoma is the worst, it's not even close.

Lately I've been seeing them occasionally. It's nothing like the virtual sea of Tacomas, but it's more than the zero Rangers I saw for months. lol

Seconded. Neighbor finally bought a Ranger, but it pales in comparison to the 20+ Tacomas I see on every drive through town. Sat at a light outside of my neighborhood a couple of weeks ago with 4 TRDOR 3rd gen Tacomas.

The Rangers look old, like they came out in 2007. The later 2nd gen Tacoma's look newer than them.

They always catch my eye, because for a split second I'm like, what is that bland blob in front of me? Oh it's a new Ranger! haha

That or I'll see a truck where the butt is sticking WAY up in the air, and sure enough, it's a new Ranger.

No bubble lasts forever. I don't see the scenario of diminishing quality, coupled with a growing used Tacoma market... fueled by insanely low lease offers... as far fetched. Having said that, I'm not predicting doomsday but there's a shelf life for everything, including market dominance.

What bubble? Again, it does seem like you are "predicting doomsday." A bubble bursting and values plummeting. Perhaps you should get out now while you can?

Leaving the dump last weekend there was an original Toyota pickup as well as each gen Tacoma there at the same time. Coincidence? Probably. But I didn’t see any other mid-size trucks.

... I mean just look at that interior. The shifter looks like it's straight out of a 90s Trans Am :puke:
