Drained oil at 5000 miles, truck level, oil hot. I always like to let oil drain for around 1 hr. Checked after 1 hr. and oil was dripping about 1 drop per min., checked again in 15 mins., oil dripping around 2 drops per min. Checked again in 15 mins., steady light stream. Never have I seen this before, Yes, truck is level. Now this kind of explains why the last oil change showed 1 qt. too much. I added the required 6.1 qt. with filter at that time. I thought someone might have replaced the Dip stick with a longer one but don't really believe that. What would cause the oil to drain at such a slow pace? Could it be sludge in the engine? Sorry, should have posted in the 2nd gen. cat., please move.

Did you open the oil fill cap, and even remove the filter?

Oil was hot from engine running, as engine cooled oil drained from filter into the pan.

    Case closed.

Yes, oil cap loosened, MY oil filter is not upside down. I never take old filer off until I replace oil plug. I changed oil in my o6 taco for 12 years and never had this to happen. Just checked it again, dripping faster than 1 per second. May let drain over night?

Take the oil filter off when you change the oil.

Maybe poke something shallow into the drain hole just to make sure nothing is sitting inside the pan in that spot.

always take off the filter, there are multiple air pockets that can trap oil in different parts of the engine.

by taking off the filler cap and oil filter you allow a release to let the oil flow down to the pan more easily.

you should let the truck sit for about an hour after you drive it to let the oil actually drain into the pan and then change it, otherwise oil is still in the tubes and galleys just sitting and will take longer to actually make it back into the pan. plus, warm oil doesn't burn like hot oil, and still gets you the desired results :)

I've never taken longer than 30 min to change the oil. If done regularly I don't see the point in getting every drop of old oil out. Just change oil, change filter and go.
