...poor attempt at sarcastic humor. Just really tired, spent all day reading up on rope tie down restoration tips and tricks. Timmy and Shawn were no help...

Changed rear shocks on a 2k 4wd trd with the Bilstein 4600's, wasn't too bad as I just slid under the truck to change them out. Was pretty easy, now the fronts....ugg.

Yes they were from West Marine, probably some overpriced sailboat part. I can’t find them on their website, but yeah they bolt right in.

Fronts are easy if you have the spring/shock assembled already, just bolts right in. But if you're reusing your old springs and just replacing the shocks then you'll have to use a spring compressor to separate the old and to put the new shocks in the springs, or just have a shop do that part.

No Thanks, I grew up in the rust belt, Never gonna do that again. I've seen $60K trucks rusted away in 7 years.

Today I changed the engine oil, washed the truck, pressure washed the engine bay, vacuumed the interior and detailed the exterior to get all the trim looking good. While I had the skid plate off I decided to tackle a project I've been meaning to do for a while: replace the front differential support bushings. Thanks to @Plastics Guy for the custom bushing kit that he makes. I'd never used a gas torch before, so I went ahead and watched a safety video before diving in. He has good step-by-step instructions on his site for the procedure, so I won't repeat it here.

Here's the Left side bushing, it's falling apart due to oil contamination from sloppy oil changes over the years:

    KIMG0616.jpg

Here's the setup I used to get the old bushing out. I used a SPUD wrench to push the bushing out once it was toasty. Sorry I didn't have anyone to take a picture of the action, but basically a couple minutes of heating around the bushing causes the rubber to melt (and catch on fire), then I poked it with the SPUD wrench and it fell out with almost no effort. Used a nearby garden hose to put out the flaming rubber.

    KIMG0618.jpg
    KIMG0619.jpg

Here's a comparison of an OEM bushing next to the new bushing. After cleaning the charred rubber from the arm and letting it cool I just poured some isopropyl alcohol on the new bushing and it slid in by hand.
    KIMG0620.jpg

The zinc plating on this frame mounting bolt was oxidized to hell so I wire brushed it and put a light coat of Rustoleum on it.
    KIMG0621.jpg

Here they are installed again. I decided to leave the original Right side bushing intact, since it was in perfect condition and still flexible. I'm saving the extra bushing as a spare in case I ever need it.

Don't feel bad, I think I sat on that project for almost a year...mainly because I didn't want to learn how to use a gas torch. :notsure:

The Funny part about this.. I ended up taking my truck in to get it ceramic tinted that day. When I picked it up, they must have sprayed a lot of water because my truck wouldn't power lock and my horn during rush hour started to just stay on haha. Made it home ready to start asking everyone and I was banned haha. oh well. pulled the fuse and after a day in sun it dried out and everything seems to be in working order again.

my own take (or attempt) at a 1st gen hidden bumper LED light bar. Used a 21.5" trail master combo spot/flood and found some fairly heavy duty shelf brackets and a few hours of my timeIMG_20190630_201107_048.jpg

Used the free time I had this morning to clean up the Taco and do some touch-up paintwork.
There's nothing better than enjoying a Taco on Independence Day! Happy 4th, everybody!

Just put my truck up on the tacoma world facebook page posted that if 250 tickets in a raffle sale for 50 bucks each the winner gets my truck. I'll be surprised if all the spots fill.
