Exactly, if enough people got together and sued, it would work.

But in class action suits you’ll get like $10, the lawyers make all the money as usual. Plus they’ll take those logos off the side.

Maybe something to consider, more business for the aftermarket graphics guys!

 

Not much room behind the head and the fire wall. Maybe a tube attached to an electric pump through the valve cover, and put in a return line from the pump to sump pan. Kinda like a turbo oil return line. Just thinking out loud.

 

Very, very steep. The new Jeeps do it too, though I'm not sure if they do it at the exact same angle. Oil drains to where it's not supposed to be and starts to burn off, oil pressure drops, and eventually goodbye motor.

Never seen a video of this happening on anything resembling a road, only when crawling up a very very steep embankment and struggling to do so long enough for the oil to get out of where it's supposed to be.

Wrangler engines are supposedly vulnerable at steep angles too. I've read owners are putting catch cans in for a fix.

Convert the oiling system to a dry sump set up with an external oil pump

 

Its a problem that plagues most, if not all vehicles with wet sump designs. Even 90s Toyota pickups experienced it.

Huh, surprised after watching your video. I've never seen this happen after that short a time at angle, usually it takes some moron spinning their wheels for a few minutes while nearly vertical.

 

I heard oil catch can might help with this.

Another thing to consider if the Moco plays semantics is that at least here in this state many of the unpaved roads are still legal county roads with very steep inclines. If they’re saying their trucks aren’t fit for driving on a legal county road just cause it’s lacking asphalt that’s a bigger issue than this one. So good luck with that one if goes to court Toyota.

Unfortunately, not that simple. One of the guys on here who had access to a good attorney friend sued a company (Mini, I think?) over what was supposed to be a pretty clear cut case (I think it was over the Magnuson-Moss Act). Yes, I think he won, after a lot of time, sweat, and money spent. And Mini didn't care. Their lawyers kept plugging away at it and arguing over every dotted I. The rest of us don't have the resources so that's why manufacturers show us advertisements with trucks climbing 30 degree inclines, then void your warranty for mud on the skidplate. They know you won't, and can't sue, and will just go away after you vent.

 

I drive a 3rd gen and seeing all this smoke is disheartening. It happened to one in our group, in one of our last rides. I've watched youtube vids of 3rd gens climbing some really steep hills with no problems, but saw just as many vids of ones that smoke and knock at steep angles. I'm kinda scared of what mine will do when I take it up a steep hill for the first time.

True but it’s not about making money, it’s about ultimately forcing them to address a known issue.

 

That’s what class actions are for. It’s not on any one person and the law firm absorbs the costs till the conclusion of the case. I’ve been involved in three ongoing at the job.

 

I'm guessing there just aren't enough people who are suffering this issue, and many who do go away after the dealer BS's them, or install whatever aftermarket gizmo's are required to keep the oil pumping. My understanding is that class actions are a steep hill to climb (pardon the pun). The lawyer wants tens of thousands of potential victims so he can really rack up the percentages.

 

Not a second gen issue.
