2020 Tacoma Pre-Order

Does anyone have an idea when the 2020 Tacoma will be available for pre-order? I spoke with a dealer yesterday and they had no information on when it would be available. TIA.

 

Maybe September/October?

Most likely sometime in July for pre-order, with delivery in Sept or thereabouts

 

The sales guy's at my local dealer didn't even know the 2020 changes when I went in to test drive a 2019. Either they're playing dumb and just want to move the 2019's or they don't know crap. Neither would surprise me. Being a car enthusiast, i've gotten used to going into test drives knowing more about the vehicle in question than the salespeople. There was a time when that annoyed me.

Another dealer told me pre-orders will most likely be sometime this summer with them showing up on lots sometime during the fall.

 

They typically are very ill informed about cars from my experience. It’s as if they just signed up for the job for a paycheck and have absolutely no interest or passion about automobiles.

 

Sounds like the sales guy is just working for a paycheck.

 

The New 2020 Tacoma should be built in September-October. I asked my Toyota Rep this same question a week ago. In the 22 years selling Toyota's, the manufacturer releases a estimate time line when new model year come out. Dealers can only see 30-45 days out on inbound vehicles. Also, the dealer has a allocation every two weeks on average. If I find out a more definite timeline, I will update this post.

 

2020 Tacoma production starts next month.

 

Why?
I researched it once and found that, just in the Toyota line, there were over 60 basic different models. Take the Tacoma... you have:
SR, SR5, Off Road, Sport, Pro, Limited.
Then you can have two or four wheel drive, short bed, long bed, access can or double cab and auto or manual transmission.
Do this for the Tundra, Yaris, Prius, Corolla, Camry, Sienna, Avalon, HR, RAV4, 4Runner, Highlander, Sequoia and Landcruiser.
On top of that, your product and options change yearly.
Also keep in mind their job is to sell cars, not public education.
In addition, 98% of the people buying them are not enthusiasts.

And you got annoyed?

Our company has three primary products, 56 models from those three primary products and over two hundred variations. Our sales guys all have engineering degrees and most have MBA's. They don't know everything either.

 

I disagree. If you're in sales, you absolutely need to know your products. If you don't know the basic changes on one of your best selling and popular models that is set to hit dealer lots in a couple of months, then you aren't trying. The info has been out for awhile and it isn't like the changes were announced yesterday.

My company also has all engineers for sales guys/gals and they're expected to educate the customer and i'm sure it's the same with your company. They don't need to know every minute technical detail but they should know enough to answer most questions.

Maybe I just have higher expectations than someone simply taking me out for a test drive and connecting me with the financing people.
You pointing out that 98% of people being non-enthusiast is reason enough to educate them. If their sales pitch is only "because Toyota" than they're lousy sales people.

Why wait for the 2020 ?
Dealers will be getting over MSRP at worst
Or
At best MSRP
Plenty of dealerships are discounting 19’s

 

Toyota is the largest car manufacturer in the world. They could buy Ford and GM and have enough left over to buy a boutique car company.
250K of Tacomas were sold last year. Pretty sure their method works.

 

That would make sense if the launch is September.

 

To confirm was has been said, I spoke to a dealer yesterday and the sales manager says his computer simply says "September". He indicated he can't see beginning or end of month or a date...just the month. I wonder if all models will be available out of the gate or if SR5 will be first and PRO last? Any thoughts on that? I was also told I may be able to order a PRO in August if September is the start date but that came from a sales guy, not the sales manager.

 

by Jan 2020 there should be plenty, seems I bought my last two new Tacos in Dec and Jan, I made trade my 17 for a 20 if the numbers are right
