Never assume anything for one and two, how did you clear the code yourself? Just asking..

That I am not sure of they have been changed out in the past year as the truck only has 89,000 miles on it since he got it in 2014, it just has me stumped and definitely don’t want to replace something that isn’t needed as the computer, it started this about 2 1/2 weeks ago out of nowhere while he was sitting idle in the driveway and then went to back up which it did for a second then stuttered then shut off

We did here at home when we put the one in I bought, not sure of the mechanic, I had to go get things out of the truck while at mechanic and he was talking to me at same time. I hope he did ‍♀️I know he kept saying when he runs the diagnostic it keeps coming up with 9 codes and all had to do with the maf sensor? Would make sense being when we put new maf sensor in at the house it didn’t sputter but then would only go 15-20mph

How did you clear the code? Hand held computer? Disconnect the battery? How?

Home was by battery, mechanic said he did by computer and battery but of course I didn’t see him actually do it? Sorry I just went back, I misread your first response

Ok so on the paper of codes it says mechanic reset them and a code of p0103 comes up would this still have to do with not being an oem maf sensor installed?

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Take the KN filter out and put the original filter system back. The MAF will get dirty from KN filter and throw codes. You will get long lasting service from the way the filter system is originally.

The truck probably won't go over 15-20mph because it is in limp mode because of the error code. Try disconnecting the maf sensor and clearing codes and then running the viechles. A new code should pop up. This can help diagnos if it's a part failure or wiring failure.
You said there were 9 codes. Please specify what codes those were and what is currently showing.

Remove the K&N crap and put an oem sensor on it.

Yes, he had told me 9 codes but on my print out the first time was 0102 0103 0113 1604 he got another maf sensor from auto zone same one I purchased thinking mine was a defect and he reset codes and then only came up as 0103 but of course from reading up it prob should have been a eom Toyota/Denso maf sensor to buy so I just got one from Toyota dealership and will see if that works

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
If you still have the original mass airflow clean it and reinstall it and see what happens

That’s a start. I’d replace the spark plugs anyway. It started fine from cold and now runs like crap when hot? Maybe try a new engine coolant temp sensor. Honestly, if you’re at the Toyota dealer maybe they should just fix it. It might not be as bad as you think

If it's running that poorly, there should at least be pending codes the dealer, another mechanic, or just going to Auto Zone and having them scan the codes for free. If the MAF was contaminated, it's likely the throttle body could use a cleaning too.

Sounds like the computer needs to relearn. If drive it around for a while to see if it evens out but I'm not a mechanic.

Have you unhooked the battery since you replaced it? Maybe try doing that so the computer defaults out.
