This guy! Drilled the drain holes in my bed a little bigger for the drain tubes for my backflip cover. Was super careful but I guess not careful enough. Noticed my check engine light on today and went to fill up the gas tank on my way to the auto parts store for a code reader when gas just started pouring all over the ground. Posting this as a testament to my own stupidity and a warning to others. Took about ten days to show up so I must have barely nicked it and then tank pressure probably blew it.

Taking it for a week's vacation back home today but not anymore. Will sulk in my wifes car. I am an idiot.

Any advice on how to fix it? I'm guessing I need to pull the plastic bed out and just replace the line from above.

the tacoma bed mounting bolts are in the bed, easy to get to.
you will need to unplug wiring to the tail light and disconnect
the tube from the gas tank to the bed. then im guessing you
can tilt the bed and support it with a 2x4. thats what i did
on my chevy pick up when i needed to replace the fuel pump.

Stuff happens man. Now you have a learning opportunity on your hands.

At least you didn't drain the trans fluid pan while changing oil and then argue that you didn't.

You need to discharge the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery terminal before you do anything.

Having a fire extinguisher around would be a good idea too.

Crawl around under your truck and see if the fuel line is accessible. Perhaps it is easier than you think. Put your eyeballs on it.

    And, welcome to Tacoma World!

You’re not the first. I have seen a few of these threads. At least one time the pro installer did this.

You're not done yet. Two more steps till you're a PRO:
    - drain the transmission fluid instead of the oil and add 6qt of oil to the oil.
    - open the drain plug on the differential fist only to discover the fill plug is stuck.
    (yes, people have done this)

This is actually the second time I’ve heard of this on TW....the first was a professional shop did it to a member’s Tacoma. Maybe run the drill in reverse so the bit doesn’t pull thru the material its hard to stop the torque of a drill even going slow.

Don’t feel bad. On My new Ranger Bass Boat while mounting the motor on the back the “pro”drilled two holes in the fuel cell and didn’t even know it till he went to fill up the tank for me.
Gas was pouring out all over the lot. So it even happens to the best of them.
