No...that just encourages the user to press harder.
Let the bit do the work...
Better yet, use a step bit and again, let the bit do the work.

Yeah, you're not the first, assuming you mean that you drilled through #9. I think the dealer wanted over $500 to replace the last one I read about.

A cheap trick (not the band) is to put some electrical tape on the drill bit as a stop for going trough only as far as you need.

The idiot sandwich gif hurts and also fits. I have a drawer full of step bits and never even grabbed one. That knowledge causes me more pain. Good advice otherwise so far. Thanks all. Had my 2009 for 10 years and never screwed up a thing. Two months into this one and bang.

A few people have done this. Always best to use a uni-bit.

I would drop the tank before I unbolted the bed.

Shit happens man. I did this kinda work professionally for 14 years and to say I didn’t make a few mistakes or poor decisions would be a lie. It’s always easier doing it to your own vehicle than someone else’s. Believe me.

I always use step bits to drill in my truck for this reason.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Nothing money and time can't fix.

    Reserected from the dead.
Might as well completely cut the line, install a piece of hose over the cut with a pair of hose clamps. It will be fine.

Depends on what line and where it was cut. Pics! Is it the fill tube?

I'm on a ten day road trip, sadly without my new taco. Hoping to have a plan by the time I get back and can post pictures then.

The Mrs says I should bite the bullet and let the dealer fix it and move on but I'd like to tackle it and avenge my stupidity.

My next thread will probably be "Guess who took apart his truck and now it's stuck in the driveway?"

OP, I don’t know if or how this will help. I had a root canal and 2 crowns done yesterday. Misery loves company.

You can fix it. As long as you're adequately prepared.

No smoking while performing repairs. If you go boom while smoking, Toyota will definitely say this is normal. Best wishes on your fix.

    Your day was definitely worse....

OP. I redid my master bath. Rerouted drainlines. While putting backerboard up prior to tiling, I put a backerboard screw directly into the pipe, that I had just put there and could see before the backerboard went up.... I feel your pain but we are human and not robots.
