So I’ve had steering wheel vibes on a new 19 OR. Today was the third time they’ve been rebalanced. They road force balanced them today and said 3 of the tires were off by .25-.50. Anyone else have this issue or know the cause to keep going out of balance?

I’ve had vibration and steering wheel wobble for 18,000 miles! 20 mph and up! Toyota said..CANT DUPLICATE! I didnt actually think they would try anyway! Took it to Firestone, same...CANT DUPLICATE! My brother in law runs a Tire store, so he let me use his machine to balance them! 3 were out of round and no balancing would help! I replaced the junk Firestone’s with Sumitomo Encounter HT’s! No vibration till 92 mph, but slight! No more wobble! I love my truck again! Mines a TRD Sport 4x4, not an OR! But, hope this helps!

Sometimes, the belts in tires shift slightly, other times it's the road. If it's a fine enough vibration, the tech may not notice. Other times, they just suck. It's a crapshoot sometimes. You can get lucky and have access and knowledge to run a wheel balancing machine, otherwise you're at the mercy of some $12/hour dude who barely understands how to do it right. There's an art to using almost no weight to balance a wheel/tire combo. I used to make it a goal to never use more than 1 oz. when balancing and I'm horrified when I see 4-5 ounces in my own wheels from some shops. Gotta have skills.

Isn't there a weight standard, an unwritten limit of wheel weights that can be used before the tire SHOULD BE re-indexed on the wheel and the balancing tried again? I thought it was like 4 ounces or something like that. Hold four ounces in your hand. Any tire/wheel combination that needs that much weight to balance it is a messed up marriage of the two. I can't remember the last time I saw a "tech" at the tire shop dismount a tire, rotate it a quarter turn on the wheel and reseat the bead.

To answer the OP's question, yes, I have had it, but it was on KO2's that were close to the end of their life on a 4Runner, not on new tires.

Had my 5k maintenance and tires rotated...vibes are back. Could it be defective tires? It’s at the dealer now.

Too bad the industry doesn’t have more guys like you. I do understand they get paid a minimal amount and are given a minimal amount of time to do the job. I one of those customers who will pay more to have the work done right. When I got my new wheels and tires I was totally stressing about them scratching the hell out of the wheels- yes I’m just a little particular. The guy who mounted balanced and did the later alignment was totally awesome! Minimal weights, considering the tires and 0 scratches. Truck went back for another alignment check after suspension settled and same result. Ramona tire- guys are awesome.

Guessing Wranglers on your OR? I swapped to those on my wifes Sport, no issues.
Just drove 3000 miles in my sons 19 Sport with Toyo open country tires at 80 with a car trailer at 4000# all in, no issues. Much better tire imo. Not sure if Regional due to buying in NC or a 19 thing
    Good luck

My 2019 SR5 has Toyo Open Country tires, and I am very satisfied with them.
