TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Maybe a dumb question, has anyone ever bothered swapping to a gm style auto trans? I have a bum knee so even though I like manuals I cant do them. Didnt know if there was a perfomance gain that direction.

 

Do they even make a good auto?

 

Lol! Thanks. Don’t worry I was quietly shitting myself as I only had one shot at this. Would have been an expensive stuff up!

 

www.lceperformance.com has a bell housing adapter to do just that.

 

That was only a number given due to the fact that he was the only one known to take the OEM crank that high. Looks like the bar has now been raised.

 

Got the truck back up and running on JustDSM base tune. So far so good.

Installed the following in just over two days:

3° cam gears
FIC 650 injectors
URD longtube headers (w/ @Roostfactor "special" plates)
JFR ypipe
Roush tensioner
Oil catch can
New ngk iridium plugs
New denso wide band o2 sensor

I also cleaned the blower and intercooler, adjusted the bypass valve, and changed the SC oil. Cleaned the pcv valve too.

Unfortunately the mishimoto 160° thermostat arrived a day late so that'll get installed later.

All i can say from the short Initial test drive I took is WOW! Should be well worth the effort once things are dialed in. I have a larger maf housing ready once more initial tuning is done for the injectors.

I installed the URD headers without lifting the truck or removing the wheels. It took longer to remove the Doug Thorley shorties than to install the URD headers. My only hang up was the steering shaft clamp. I got it to move up enough to disconnect the shaft but it would not budge sliding back down to reconnect.

The trick I used for this was to place a washer in the clamp slot over the bolt hole and tightened a bolt on the threaded back side of the clamp. This opens the clamp to allow it to move. Even then I still had to tap it down into place with a bit of force using a bar from the top of the engine bay and a block of wood keeping the two shafts in alignment.

 

That steering shaft gave me some trouble as well. The LT headers are worth it though... for race purposes only of course.

 

I got most of my header install done.....then realized the steering shaft was in the wrong place.
Very frustrating. But yes, these headers are worth it.

 

Make sure you tighten the o2 block off plugs very tight. Yes, theres a reason I know.

 

Out of everything I forgot to order o2 sensor extension harnesses so as of right now my front sensors are in the forward mount reading from a single cylinder on each bank. Once I get harnesses I'll move them to the collector

 

Good job. Took me exactly 364 days to get my car running from the timing belt, supercharger install, and headers. Surprised the gas in my tank was still usable.

 

So with having to take the SC off in order to get the new cam gears in, I plan on:
- replacing the coupler
- greasing the needle bearings
- changing the SC oil, I just did it but with it off I figured I could dump it out(?) Instead of the shove the tube and hope for all the oil method
- new spark plugs all around

Anything I've missed?

 

Paint the valve covers?

I have some cerakote ceramic paint...

I'll add adjust the boost valve while its off.

 

Maybe double check the bypass valve.

 

I considered buying a set of valve covers to polish and clearcoat. Or paint red. These GB's are running me broke though.

 

Adjsut the bypass valve. Maybe new foam seal on the intercooler?

For the oil I tried tipping the blower to dump it but there was not much in there from the factory that I could get out maybe 2 oz. Tried the hose too. It took 4 Oz to overflow from the drain for me on refill

 

Ditto on the broke part lol. I had to bow out of the fuel rail GB. Found out I've got a little one on the way.
