    I have a 2007 base with a stock 4 cylinder engine. Is it possible or even feasible to put a V6 in it?

    Anything is possible. You can put a V12 in a Pinto if you want, but it's not economically smart to spend all the money and time to swap a V6 into a 4 cylinder Taco.

    It is absolutely possible. There are multiple threads discussing this topic.

    If you can do it yourself you'll save $$$. Having a shop do it will no doubt make the cost higher than buying a new/used truck with a V6.

    As the owner of a 2007 Taco 4x4 regular cab, I’ve read quite a bit on this very subject. And I can sympathize with your desire to keep your truck. The answer to your question is “yes”. You can, in fact, upgrade to a V6.

    The simplest way I’ve boiled down on how to do it is — (1) have a complete donor truck with the engine you want. (2) don’t try to change from manual to automatic or automatic to manual. (3) be very mechanically inclined. (4) be very attentive to details and research thoroughly every step in the process before you take the leap. As in, find out if the back of the 4.0L V6 will bolt up to the rest of your drivetrain. Are the engine mounts the same? How hard to fabricate a bracket if they’re not the same? Can I even fabricate a bracket? Can I just pull the 2.7L 4 cyl and its transmission and transfer case from my truck and put in a 4.0L V6 and its transmission and transfer case? What’s universal between the trucks and what isn’t? Do I have to swap radiators or are they the same? Where can I find every single part number for quick reference? What if I just strip everything off my current truck, strip the other truck, then reassemble what I have to reassemble into the truck that I want to keep?

    There’s a lot to know before beginning.

    Honestly, it’s a great project, and if done correctly would be awesome. Keep in mind, that for probably a little less money you can get a URD supercharger ($5,000) for your 4 cylinder. And when LCE finally has their turbo kit for the 2tr-fe you’re probably looking at $2,500-$3,000 for a “different” kind of upgrade.

    None of this is meant to be discouraging. Just alerting you to some of the issues that I’ve read about, from what others have asked and others have answered, are things to think about. If I could source a complete donor truck for a grand or so I absolutely would. Then one day when my 2007 wasn’t my daily driver I’d begin exploring the swap and having some fun.

    Like others have stated, sell it and get a V6. It's not a simple plug and play. You will likely need ECU, trans, motor mounts fab, and upgraded suspension for added weight, etc..

    Would be a great deal for us reg. cab lovers, who don't have the option of a v-6. My wife's 2010 Rav4, with a 3.5 v-6, is wayyy more comfortable & fun to drive than my 2013 Taco 4x4 4cyl., that is straining & shifting on any hill. Her Rav4 just seems to float over hills with no straining or shifting, like it doesn't realize it going over a hill. My 4cyl. Taco shifts down on all hills & usually shifts down twice, very aggravation.

    I’d love to have a non-emissions diesel in my regular cab. I’m still trying to hit the lottery. Maybe one day.

    If it’s a regular cab 4x4, heck yeah!! Otherwise this is just stupid.

    Should be as easy as engine transplants can be these days because everything in the engine bay is the same. Just stay with manual or auto, whatever you currently have.
    Get a wrecked donor truck, make some money back by parting it out when you’re done.
    You need to swap transmission with engine, FYI.
    ECU will swap right into placebut your Body harness connections might need some re-pinning and stuff. You will also need to take your dash out and use the engine immobilizer parts from the donor. V6 engine mounts should work on your truck, same with rad and shroud. Trans xmember will need extended. Lastly drive shafts will need shortening and lengthened

    I'd have thought you would need a couple of extra fuel lines, & what they connect to, a couple of extra spark plug wires & the stuff all 6 plug wires connect to make them work. Yes all the stuff should be there. For a seasoned, or professional mechanic, may not be a big deal at all, but for the other 95% of the general public, I Think it would be a little bigger job than we would be comfortable with.
