Hopefully not, 3.4 motors very seldom throw rods, especially driving on a flat road,
    fingers crossed

Too far away to help, but kinda been sitting here watching it play out. Hoses and gaskets don’t make a loud bang so my initial thoughts are a thrown rod. Looks like you’re on a pretty decent shoulder, and have a bunch of great guys willing to help ya out. Keep us updated.

Nice job members of that area banding together to offer some help

The loud bang the OP heard is the problematic part. If you blow an oil cooler o-ring, oil pan seal, rear main,or half moon they go quietly.

Well y'all... This might be the most embarrassing thing I've done... It was just my oil drain plug. Found a great towing guy who took me to his shop where I could get a good look and damn it the plug was missing. I had a lot of projects going on and it was a late night in the garage when I changed the oil, I must have finger tightened it and wallah after 500 miles it wiggled out. Moral of the story: focus on one thing.

was the loud bang the drain plug hitting something?
i made a careless mistake before too :anonymous: left something loose in the engine compartment and closed the hood and away I went only to awaken in the middle of the night and grabbed a flashlight and said OMG that woulda been expensive fix if that had slipped into the fan

I've lost both a piston rod and a drain plug while my 3.4 V6 was in operation. The rod was definitely a loud bang sound and the plug was more of a clunk sound as it bounced off of the skid plate, about 5 miles down the road after having the oil changed at a large retailer whose name starts with a W. I'm glad your breakdown wasn't serious.
