I personally like a full size and same spare. I rotate it with the regular set and get more mileage out of the whole set of tires (this also keeps the spare the same diameter as the rest). I also do not have a dry rotted spare when it comes time to get new tires. Having five of the same rims makes a difference aesthetically when rotating tires. So t cost me more up front but I think it is worth it in the long run.

Personally as stated above. Five tires in rotation are better than four in use and one rotting under the truck. IMHO

I have aftermarket UCAs. I think clearance from UCAs is fine with 285/75/16

I can definitely see your point. I may just bite the bullet. That brings up another issue, or question. As to placement of the fifth wheel. I would hate to stuff a new rim and tire under the truck. I would have to buy some type of spare holder for the bed, rear bumper, etc...

I could always just strap it in the bed of the truck but this takes up precious bed space and possibly theft issues.

So adding the fifth tire and wheel is quite the investment.

Are you replacing the factory spare wheel to an aftermarket or leaving the OEM steel wheel? I am about to do this but want to match with a TRD wheel instead. The weight of the new spare/wheel is significantly more so I wasn't sure the strength of the spare tire system w/ chain to support.

Using the OEM Off road wheel myself. Wasn't thinking about the extra weight, but I did this in my old truck with now issues.

I plan to get a bumper with a swing arm. I cannot imagine trying to jack up my truck in an off-road location and get the spare out from under the truck.

Also that brings up another reason I run a spare the same model as my main tires. I will not loose traction by having to run a shitty spare when I do get a flat on the trail or in the snow.

Seems like the spare tire space is larger than on previous models. I imagine the redesign accounted for the the weight of the bigger tire that fits there now.

I am reading a 33 fits but how about a 35 ? Not necessarily a mud terrain, it can be an AT.

Nope. I run a 285/70/17 in the same spot. Similar size (pretty much the same) and it's just as close.

I was worried but after driving it on some rough fire roads (faster than I should have been going), doing slow whooped out hill climbs, and occasional mall crawling has me confident that the spacing is NOT an issue.

The insurance over having a full size spare far outweighs my concerns.

Get a worn out spare and fit it in if it really concerns you, you'll gain another 3/4 inch. OR just be that guy and run a rear swing out bumper with spare (i will like your picture on Instagram & it will be a boxer dropper at the local fast food joint), bed mount, or roof mount that bitch.

Cheers with what you decide on.
