i was driving my 1999 tacoma 2.4 liter while i was going up on a bridge i wanted to truck to down shift so i pushed down on the accelerator but the truck did not down shift instead loss power completely and couldn’t go faster than 15-20 mph and the engine sounded like it was choking. I parked it waited 2 minutes it fired right up and drove normal. Anyone possibly know what happened?

Almost sounds like it went into limp mode, did the check engine light come on? Maybe something in the fuel filter temporarily blocked off the line
