I'm sorry for posting this, but are so many forums on the subject, and I just need some clarification.
The main tire thread says that 265/75r16's are the largest tire size you can fit on a stock 3rd gen.
I just read another thread saying that 265/70r16's are the largest you can go without any modification.
So which one is it? I have a stock SR5 and, besides new tires when the time comes, I want to add some sliders. Can I safely go to the 75's without any rubbing, or will I have to remove the front mud flaps?
Again, I apologize again for yet ANOTHER tire question, I just want a definitive answer. Thanks for any help!

    265/70/17

Most commen depends on rim/wheel size
Replace front mud flaps with a flat rubber style

On a OR or Sport, 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 should run fine... maybe removing the mud flaps if there are any. I don't have a link to back it up, but I think the suspension on the SR5 has the chassis sitting a bit lower then the TRD models so maybe some fitting issues there.

Alright, I definitely don't have mud flaps, just saw that as a potential concern in other posts. So I should be good with mounting 265/75r16's to my stock SR5 dark anthracite rims?

I run 265/70/17 on stock OR DCSB with 0 issues. I'm sure 265/75/16 will work. Its Basically the same size

With OEM mud flaps and Sema wheels if that makes any difference.

I know this doesn't matter but I was in the same boat as you but a different vehicle. I wanted 265/75/16s on my 02 4 runner. I was told it won't work. Tire shop ordered me a stock size and the 75s to try. Guess what they fit, no issues and so I say let them test fit some.

On an OR for sure there wouldn't be a fit issue. I think the SR sits a tad lower but probably not enough cause an issue especially w/o mud flaps.

that makes sense but I also thought the shocks were different.
