Thought about moving there at one point. Friend has a house right on the Deshutes River. Can fish right off the bank.

My family always used to camp and hunt around Davis Lake up there when I was a kid - check it out if you're not fully booked. Great scenery, cool lava flow, and amazing bass fishing. Lava Flow campground is great, but there are (or at least used to be) some great unimproved campsites on the North side of the lake. https://www.gaiagps.com/public/mrj2bGpQUPaROjqhTOZJdO0G

Have fun up there, I miss that area.

Main? Trail from the Portal, not the mountaineers route.

Dont think so. Some Lady owns it, "Dixon 4 wheelers"
Her husband had a jeep also, both on 40s.

It's all in the wrist snap and thumb control on the line as soon as it starts to slow down. Miss time either of those and birds nest city.

I've never used a baitcaster when going for trout. My trout rods are all either fly or ultralight jig set-ups. Bass is where baitcasters excel.

Yeah the wrist/snap and thumb on the spool before it hits the water is critcal, but the other part that most people forget is to set the tension and brake system. Next time you go out Leonard, dial your brake system all the way to "max" and turn the tension knob (next to your drag system) tight enough to where your lure just barely lowers by the force of gravity. Dialing in that stuff will make your casts night and day, especially when first starting out.
