I just upgraded from my 2008 TRD Double Cab to a 2019 TRD Double Cab and need to get a rack to carry my canoe. My old Tacoma had a canopy with roof racks so carrying the canoe was easy but I opted not to get a canopy with my 2019 and go with a tonneau cover instead. I also opted not to go with the factory rack because if just didn't look that study. I kept Thule Wingbars from my old rack with the intention of using them on my new Tacoma but I have some questions:

    1. Will the two racks over the cab (I have the full double cab) be enough to carry a canoe? Obviously, I will tie down both the back and front of the canoe or do I need to have something like a Thule goal post in the back to support the canoe? Is it better?

    2. I dropped by my local Thule dealer who said that Thule does not yet provide fit kits for the 2019 Tacoma. Has anyone else run into this? Seems odd that the 2019 mount would be different the 2018.

    3. For those who have a Thule (or other) fit kit that mounts under the inside door weather stripping: have you had any problems with water leaking in?

    4. Any other recommendations for racks for carrying a canoe.

    Thanks!
    Dave.

I've carried a kayak and two paddle boards all over the state and off-road with no problems on the factory rack. It folds out of the way when not in use for less drag on road and it's got no whistle or sounds with it. I'd go factory and don't look back.IMG_3206.jpg

I run yakima on my 2015. I don't think you will have enough distance between the bars if you are only using the cab. Either make a makeshift stand in the bed out of 2x4's or use the hitch for the back. I prefer the 2x4's because you can still drop the tailgate. No water leakage on the yakima's but make sure you put the sticker in the door jamb to prevent scratching. I do this on my tundra and have 100's of miles with no incident. 18.5' canoe for referenceIMG_0317.jpg

Waiting for the water to reach the top of that ski run and surf your way down?
