T slot roof rails?

I have a first gen double cab and just added a camper shell. Looking to add t slot roof rails to both the shell and cab if they exist in an after market option. I see campershells can come with the t slot (if that’s the right name) style rails pre installed from factory but can I add them after? Also can I add them to the cab roof? Anyone done this before and know how to do it and where to find the rails?

I really like the lower profile mounting options it allows and I’m looking at added a full prinsu rack set up and that seems to be an easy way to mount them, aside from adding the rails which I’m guessing is a pain.

Thank you! How did you find these? I have googled everything I can think of! They say to only use rhino racks on them or it voids the warranty. I wonder how strict they are on that.

 

I’ve just been looking for the same thing as you for a while. Thule and Yakima also make the same thing and they’re also sold on Amazon but I’ve found the rhino rack setup to be the cheapest ($$). As far as the warranty goes, I’m sure Thule and Yakima have a similar “fine print” to cover their a**. Not that it won’t work with other products, just they haven’t tested it with anything other than their crossbars.

 

I tried the same thing. There isn’t any room for mounting hardware close enough to the edge of the roof. The roof flexes down where you can run the rails and get the hardware through. I had to go with Yakima q towers and q-16 clips,wich are discontinued.

 

Interesting. You removed all the interior cover! That’s helpful to see. So is the sheet metal not strong enough if you rivet the t slot directly to it? I noticed mine flexed some yesterday when I was looking at it. There is a channel on both sides of the roof so I thought maybe it’s supposed to go in that and would be stronger in there. I really don’t want to go with the goofy gutter clips and giant Yakima cross bats.

 

You have 1/2 inch between the reinforcement that you see and the roof. I wasn’t gonna try drilling and hoping there is enough room to get a rivet in and have it bend properly. Or use bolts an hope there is enough clearance to get a nut and wrench in there and then get the wrench out and know I got enough 5200 in there to seal the holes. Plus the rails would be at an angle not flat so I didn’t know what I would do to make sure the mounts slide back and forth without having to readjust the feet every time. So I mounted them on the bed rails instead. I can move the cage wherever I want. Losen the feet and slide away. I went Yakima, the q-16 clips are discontinued so find them first. I called Yakima direct and luckily for me a dealer sent back all their stock and a set of q-16s was in it. $75.00 and she sent them to me free. $100.00 for the q-towers and $50.00 for the bar and $12.00 for lock cores that matched the ones I had for the rail system. Total I have $1500.00 in rack stuff on that truck. Both pictures. It cost way more than I expected so $80.00 for all the lock cores was nothing to make sure it stays mine.
