But what about the shroud that goes on the inside? Doesn’t the fan stick out 1/2” on the inside?

Do you have 3 or 2” cushions?

Damn I’m glad you found out it was only 1/2 and not 1” and not me. Way to take one for the team! Hahaha.
But no really. That’s crazy and that sucks.

 

On a 1" thick roof it would be even with the bottom of the roof, but with the roof only being 1/2" it will stick out 1/2 in the center. I can trim the inside finish piece enough to fit.

Edit: I have the 3" cushions.

 

Not flush with the ceiling though if the fan is sticking down 1/2”.

 

I'll post up some pictures later, it's gonna work out. The inside trim will still be against the ceiling, the fan will just protrude out a little bit. Standby for pics. I should be done in about an hour or so.

I am very slowly working through my list of little projects for the camper. Happy to say I've prioritized getting out and using it over working on it so far this season. All I've done lately is a ghetto version of Ace's rear window prop using:

I will make some mounts eventually to hold the rods at a better angle, but just sticking them in the existing screw holes on the tent corner brackets worked fine to get some air while maintaining some privacy. Had a very windy night and nothing came undone or made flapping noise.

 

How about taking 1/8" or 1/4" flat plate, cutting a frame, mount on inside and using machine screws tapped in the flat plate. It wouldn't stick down much and would sandwich the 1/2" honeycomb. You could also use nyloc nuts which are round on the ends so as not to hurt cushion. If you really wanted it strong, use the flat plate on both sides and simply use VBH tape to attach the fan to the flat plate. Through bolt the 2 flat plates together.
When I visited the Belgrade factory, I saw a lot of the 1" honeycomb around, didn't see any 1/2". I guess it was for the beds, not the roofs. It's a little disappointing. No wonder they haven't offered a fan as an option.

Airflow is good. As soon as I opened the vent, air started moving and it made it 100% more comfortable. And with the fan on you can definitely feel air movement.
I will be ordering another shroud in the future to make it look a little better but I'm not worried about it now. The shroud kind of bells out near the bottom and didn't fit quite right but I have an idea of how to make it fit if I did it again.
All in all I think it was worth it. I need to permanently wire it now and get it cleaned up and I'll get some more pictures up. I have a ton of pictures of things I've changed on my setup in preparation for a 3 week trip I have coming up.

Did you just use the supplied screws and run them into the roof?

I’m still going with the thru-bolt/nut idea only now knowing it’s 1/2” I have to change my plans a little.
Having a buddy get me some thick white plastic tomorrow at his work to use on the inside.

I was thinking about making a ring like that but putting it on the outside of the roof to aid in closing. You see any cons with it on the outside? Guess it's two layers to seal instead of one?

Only downfall of doing one on the top would be two layers of sealant like you said and a higher profile.
I want it on the inside as roof support to help pull the fan down when running the bolts thru.

 

Wouldn't it then keep the fan as flush with the inside ceiling as possible?

vs. putting the extra material on the inside would locate the fan 1/2" closer to the mattress/tent material.
