This is my first new vehicle purchase and I’m unsure of what I’m seeing on my frame is normal or not. Has some rust on the welds and one spot looks like something dragged accross it. It was like this the day after I bought it brand new.

    Is this normal?

The dealer offered to coat the affected areas with CRC, but is this the same stuff I’ve read horror stories about?

Should I just ask them to sand and repaint it instead?

    Thanks!

Hi man, I live in south FL so no salty roads... I have a new taco about a month now and I haven’t crawled under yet... when I get to do it I will have with me a can of rust converter and spray whatever I see that I don’t like... I did this with my previous taco and it worked...

I would not worry about those spots that you pictured.. if you want to go further you can light sand and apply several coats I guess...

Ahhh another rust thread. Dont we all know toyota frames are meant to rust out so we are forced to buy a new one in ten years? Lol

My 2018 is looking the same.

It's a brand name. They make all kinds of products for the automotive industry. They have a rust converter. I know the brake cleaner is pretty good, not sure about other products.

I had the same in my front underchassis. Used Rustoleum Rust Dissolver gel, then after the rust spots dissolved, wire brushed. Painted with Rustoleum primer and semi gloss black. I also scuffed the existing paint and painted it as well. Later I did the rear axle too.

I plan on doing this anywhere I notice rust on the chassis . Sucks but other makes have the same issues.

I’d just get some sandpaper, paint and crawl under and correct these things myself before I’d go to the dealer and have them do it.
I know that you paid a lot for your truck and should not have to put up with this trivial stuff but save the dealer for the important
warranty repairs that may come later. JMHO

^^^^...that. That’s an easy fix with a trip to Home Depot/Lowes or even Wally World and an hour under the truck, if that. I wouldn’t bother with the dealer or risk them screwing something up unless you really need to. Hell, you’ll be done with it before you could call, make an appt, wait, and then sit around the dealer.
