You seem like a reasonably intelligent person, simple research on your part would have answered all of your questions.

I think this thread was only initiated to start your conversation about being a vegan, period. This has absolutely nothing to do with buying a Tacoma. Considering all of the plastic, oil & gasoline in my Tacoma, its a rolling monster.

I say, do what you want as long as your not hurting others. Be a vegan, don’t be a vegan, but trying to convince others on a truck forum to follow your vegan views based on a leather wrapped steering wheel might be a stretch.

I’m going to BBQ this weekend, I promise to name each sausage before putting them down.

Are we back in the fucking twilight zone again? Where animals are cartoon characters? And Simba was good, and you can’t exterminate Mickey because then Minnie would become a depressed mouse? Living things eat living things. Things die. Some people are simply too soft to carry on in the real world.

More bluntly, if you can not cope mentally with life and death, and you cannot bring yourself to eat another living creature, you probably weren’t meant to survive, and your local grocery store with the vegan meal plans is the only reason you’re still here.

 

Most people choose to go vegan/vegetarian not because they couldn't kill, but because we no longer need to. There are hundreds of plant-based meat substitutes at our supermarkets, and living conditions for most farm animals are shitty at best. It's not a sign of weakness to be compassionate towards animals.

I have no issues with fishing or hunting. I draw the line at eating meat from a market. I catch and release in freshwater with barbless hooks, never had an issue releasing the fish as healthy as it was when I caught it. I keep certain species of saltwater fish and I'm fine with it, that fish was wild and I'm not supporting commercial fisheries. If you think our meat industry is fine, you're the one that we should be nitpicking.

I don't think you have to be the same as someone to understand them. Just cause this guy isn't vegan/vegetarian doesn't mean he doesn't understand what they're saying. It's the same with me.

And being compassionate to the point that you have separated yourself from the “living things eat living things” and have anthropomorphized every breathing animal, that is indeed the inability to cope with life, and is indeed weakness.

 

Our meat industry is not fine, and I choose how I get my meat. Meat from Mass process factories cannot possibly be as clean and fresh as I want it, so I go elsewhere.

I'm a pescatarian, haven't had any beef, pork, chicken, etc for about five years now. We usually eat fish once or twice a month, sometimes not at all. I don't go hunting myself but I've helped my father/FIL butcher deer and fully support hunting, I think it's beneficial for the deer population especially since we've eliminated most of their natural predators.

 

Yep, I think hunting for meat is perfectly fine. Those dollars spent on the licenses and lotteries go back to the resources, most of the guys helping to protect our forests and waters are sportsmen.

Because the fish are wild and I catch them, they aren't raised in small cages and stuffed full of hormones/antibiotics before being shipped off to a meat factory. I think of it this way, if I couldn't kill it, I wouldn't eat it. I'm sure we could all kill a cow or chicken, but imagine having to do that everytime you grill out.

 

Ya, wolves and cougars. The only thing around now are coyotes, which can take down a fawn or potentially a sick adult, but that's about it. Couple that with the loss of habitat and it's an issue.
