    @OVTune

How do Ecoboost engines make boost using 87? Wonder if that technology/method could be integrated in the tacoma to retard the timing.

    Reducing ignition timing.

The compression ratio of the ecoboost 3.5L engine is 10:1. So with significantly retarded ignition timing it's possible to boost with 87 octane due to direct injection.

However our engine 2GR-FKS the compression ratio is 11.8:1.
This compression ratio allows for more torque to be created with less boost pressure, but because the static compression ratio is this high, we do not have plans to make it 87 octane safe.

I see, that's very interesting! Thanks for your response.

Does retarding ignition timing when using lowet octanes have any other adverse effects besides lower power output in EB engines?

Retarding the timing is used to help prevent predetonation. With higher compression ratio's higher octane fuel is the only safe way to keep from melting a piston or 6.

Do you know yet what the power curve for the K04 option will look like compared to the K03?

    ^+1.
Gearing is independent of engine performance (with exception of AT having ECU controlling shift points). You can have all the added HP and torque but if you are geared too high (as with increased diameter tires and increased weight), the truck is at a mechanical disadvantage regardless of HP. Used to think that the 18 wheeler diesels relied on lots of HP & torque to pull heavy loads but its all actually proper gearing (up to 18 spd transmissions). This concept is even more important for offroading applications. Otherwise increased HP/torque will just be burning out clutches quicker.

@OVTune would it be possible to move the secondary cats down stream to help with a sniffer test for emissions? Or would it not be worth it? (I know a guy who can do a custom exhaust for me, I’m just wondering)

I have only tested fitment with ours.

Ours our stainless steel. I have not considered offering coating.

With front cats it should pass emissions

@OVTune I sent you an email this morning but I have yet to get an answer, seems quicker here lol

I can't go to check out for the dump pipes because it says there are no shipping methods available for my address, can't you ship north of the border?

    Hmm.. I'll look into it.

Usually when I am on the forum I am doing tickets at the same time, however with the current amount of tickets right now it's going to be a 24-48 hour wait on replies.

I figured you were busy with tickets more than usual, no rush I'm at work and won't be home until mid-august, not like I need them ASAP
