I worked at Ford since 2004. Never has, and never will, a 6.75" crew cab super duty have the same turning radius as even the longest Tacoma.

So, post Tacoma test drive disappointment, I drove a new Ford F-250 super cab. Odd to cross shop, but my 20 year old one has served well, and it was worth my time to give it a shot.

What really blew my mind, was that it drove really, really well, had a turning radius on par with the double cab Tacoma, bigger/higher/wider rear seat, 6.75’ bed, and from what I’ve read on this board, gets close enough fuel economy that it doesn’t matter to me.

On top of that, you get two massive solid axles, a V8 with almost 400 hp, a thick frame that won’t rust through, and the ability to either run 35’s down the road with no lift or body butchery, or 37’s with much cheaper suspension lifts. I can also get it with deeper gears, an e-locker, and a friggin modern infotainment system with CarPlay. Back when I used to build jeeps, I’d kill for a hardware spec sheet like that.

The kicker is that the dealer is actually willing to, you know.... ‘deal’, and it’s working out to be cheaper than what the Toyota dealer was willing to do for me.

Haters will argue ford reliability, but the 6.2 and the 6 speed automatic are regarded as rock solid everywhere I looked, and I don’t know anyone who’s gonna argue against a Dana 60 solid axle.

So peace out, enjoy your Camry powered trucks with the useless bed, the pogo stick suspension and the box-o-rocks transmission.

God, am I the only one aware of contemporary price points on trucks...this ain’t a Kia or a hyundai and it ain’t 1970...a god damn civic is almost $30k for Christ. You are old and dumb!

because forums are for whining, I’ll toss this out.

Long story short; long term Toyota truck owner. Going back to an 84 4Runner. Later, I bought a new Tacoma in October of 2001. TRD extra cab, stick, monochrome black. Great truck. Had it almost 10 years and put 175k relatively trouble free miles on it. Then the frame snapped. On the highway. Yikes. To their credit, Toyota replaced the frame. To their shame, they left me truckless for almost four months and left me with a frame with wheelbase that was more than an inch shorter on the left than the right, and immediately started rusting where they dragged it across the shop floor. I sold it shorty thereafter and it sold quickly.

In the interim, while I was truckless, I bought an old F250 stripped to the bone to see me through. Turn of the century standard cab, leaf sprung solid axle all around, roll up windows and no A/C. Ok truck, but also fast forward to 2019, now falling victim to road salt. Wife instructed me to get a new truck (always listen to the boss!), so I go yesterday to look at new Tacomas, and oh boy what an eye opener.

Go in for a crew cab long bed with a stick and a V6. Sorry we don’t make that. You can get the 5’ bed. WTF am I supposed to do with a 5’ bed? Groceries I guess on nice days?
Fine. So they get me an automatic with a 6’ bed to test drive. $39k? For a baby truck? Really? The TRD pro’s with the Tupperware snorkels sticker for more than my wife’s Audi. Ridiculous.
Regardless, I drove that thing for three miles of pure, unmitigated disappointment. This thing rides like crap. My antique leaf spring F250 rides way better than this thing, and that’s sad. The transmission is absolute garbage. Hello? Would like to shift today? Again, the ancient 4 speed auto in the Ford puts the Tacoma to shame. And it’s slow. SLOW. How can a truck with almost 300 horsepower be this slow?

What the hell did Toyota do to my beloved Tacoma? It’s ruined. Unredeemably so. I would think a respectable auto maker would be embarrassed to sell this type of trash for $25k, much less $39k. I’m willing to look past the questionable styling, the ridiculous price and the toddler sized back seat, but the quality and performance of the truck isn't there.

Quite frankly, I also found the fake hood scoop offensive. I even hissed ‘it’s a fake!’ In my best Cardassian accent to the salesperson, but sadly, he didn’t get it.

Oh well, done ranting and trolling. Have nice lives.

I agree with your assessment of the turd gen, but

1. Gasser 250s don't get the 6R140. They get the intentionally gimped garbage that is the 6R100 "Torqshit-G" that belongs in a half ton. Well-regarded? I think not.

2. The 6.2 only really stands out because GM's L96 is a dinosaur and the truck version of the 6.4 Hemi needs to be taken out back and shot. People will be flocking to the 7.3 and the L8T.

3. Actually, I will argue against the Super Dana 60, and the scores of death wobbling current gen Super Duty owners will argue against it too.

But I do hope you get a good egg out of this and stay satisfied. Just don't leave a flaming shit on FTE as you've done here if ever your SD gives you trouble; I hear they are of an older demographic and not so receptive to giggles and memes.
