It’s just matching the arch of the double overload springs on the bottom.

@EatSleepTacos So your saying it's normal? The height is one thing, but I want to make sure it functions properly.

Yep. Mine have done the same, had them over a year now with no issues with either weight carrying capacity or height or flex. And I’ve seen the W mentioned a lot on here.

Here's what I got from Wheelers Offroad who talked to ARB and here's what I got from ARB direct. They both said it's good.Screenshot_20190711-135303_Gmail.jpg Screenshot_20190711-135234_Gmail.jpg

Quick question for you guys. I have the old Dakar packs on my 09 taco and one of the leafs in the passenger side pack snapped. Can I replace it with a D29XL? Any help would be appreciated thanks

hmmm....that is a short one, and has a bracket riveted in, correct?
The AAL is on the long side.
Best thing to do is bring it to a spring place, if you have one nearby.
Have them custom make a replacement.
There is one near me, if you are interested (about 2 hrs away from you though).

On average, what are people seeing for lift (after settling) on the Mediums when loaded with your camping/overland gear? I'm looking at trying for a modest 1-1.5" lift with the Fox Level 3 kit, and although I'll be carrying a constant weight of about 350lbs, I'm thinking that this might end up with 1.5" lift on the mediums? Reading the specs, it says 2" at no added weight for the mediums but was also thinking about going HD and this way, worst case, I can remove a leaf. Interested to get your thoughts on those who have installed.

Updated: Forgot to mention I have a 3rd Gen :)

I would for sure go with the HD if I had 350 constant load

100% agree. Do not regret getting the EL096R HD leaf springs!

Nothing too exciting... maybe a little rust
Same here. With only about 350-400lbs constant load they are a little stiff so I keep a couple 50lb sand bags back there to smooth it out but when loaded down I certainly would not want the non-HD version back there.

All my recovery gear and RotoPax (2 fuel and 2 potable water) cans keep the HD comfy.

I am really I glad found these posts about the Dakar HDs... I was literally about to ask these same questions as the "W" was also a concern for me.. Sounds like it standard and a non issue.

The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
So I have the medium duty Dakars paired with 5160s in the rear. I have a bed rack (61 pounds), a RTT (128 pounds), and sliders which I'm sure some of the weight (140 pounds) gets distributed to the rear axle. Right now I measure 22.5" on the left rear wheel, and 23.25" on the right rear wheel. I did not add any shims and the truck has zero vibrations, something I would very much like to keep. Does that amount of lift seem acceptable or too low? I guess I should look at the 23.25" number as the normal and the 22.5" from the lean as the variance in which case I gained 1.25" over stock height. I had read though that the medium duty Dakar could support ~300 pounds before the lift height of the claimed 2" was impacted. I could add the El46XL add a leaf, but I fear if I do that I will get driveline vibrations, especially when I take off the bed rack and tent, and I'll need to go down that rabbit hole trying to fix that with trial and error to find the right shim.

Also, I got under the truck and noticed the leaf pack has a distinct 'W' shape to it. I got really nervous but after reading here this seems normal? Can anyone confirm that my leaf packs look the way they're supposed to?

From what I have read on this thread and heard from others with the HD Dakars, your leafs look good. Yours actually look slightly better than mine.
    Great looking rig btw
