WTF just happened? My truck bent my key, truck won’t turn

Just drove 40 minutes on a dirt road, nothing crazy. Got to the forest service stop and truck wouldn’t turn to the right. Had to put it in reverse to back it up past the turn and it died. Was able to turn in and do a figure 8 to see what was up. Took the key out and it looks like this!?!?!?!!!!!



Has anyone seen something like this before?

Truck wouldn’t turn right off the main road into the parking lot. GF was driving and I was following behind in the work truck. She might have bumped the key with her knee but does not recall it happening. I suspect bent key may have been jamming up steering wheel. Can’t see how anything else would happen. No smells or leaks, turns and runs fine now with spare. Completely f^cked if I do say so myself. Going to drive it and see if there’s anything wrong.

 

Uhh, did any of that dangling fob stuff get caught in the space between the wheel and the column? Forcing the turn would probably bend the key since you have all of that extra force exerted.

 

just get a new key

 

Was it in 4wd? The key itself doesn’t interfere with the wheel, no freaking way, but like someone posted above all the crap hanging off your key ring might have.
