I remember the J-10 Honchos when they were new. :anonymous:

Having learned to drive in a J10, and remembering the Honcho package, it looks kinda cool in the nostalgic way. But, i agree holy crap that's alot of money....

That actually looks good because the J-10 looks like a truck, it was the ugliest 1/2 ton you could buy. Still looks better than a Gladiator.

I still don't know why "Jeep" is competing with the discontinued Hummer H3 pick up.

That's cheap compared to the $98k price I found for a Rubicon Gladiator.

It's all relative to income and inflation. Paying $60K for a vehicle is on the high end, but $40K shouldn't be out of reach based on inflation. I'm old enough to remember when only luxury cars were in 5 figures, $10K would buy you a nice Cadillac. Most new cars were in the $2k to $4K range. But that was when a home cost $12K and the average income for a family was under $10K/year. In 2017 the average family income was $77K, or about 8X what it was when I was in high school.

And to be honest $40K is a lot easier to justify than our parents paying $4K. Not only is income much better, but cars today need much less maintenance and last much longer. Getting 100,000 miles without rebuilding an engine back in the 1970's was an accomplishment. Saw an old advertisement for a 1968 Chevy truck where they were bragging "Many of these trucks have gone 150,000 miles without having the engine rebuilt". A set of tires were good for 20K and MANY cars got fuel mileage in single digits back then. On top of that relative to inflation gas is cheaper today than ever before. Gas would have to be selling for about $5.20/gal today to be equal to 1970's pricing.

Forty. Thousand. F'ing. Dollars. Okay, I can wrap my head around it. Sure. SIXTY thousand? Ugh. Maybe I'm just old. I can afford it. But I don't want to afford it. And I see folks making less than me paying $1000/month or so on a car note and I just shake my head. I love that they have the choice. I'm dating a woman who grew up in Communist East Germany and if her parents didn't inherit their Trabby from her grandparents it would have been about 8 years to get govt approval for a car. So I get it about "to each their own" - but what i don't get is folks' desire to invest at times half their annual salary into a car payment.

Chrysler really needs to incorporate the 'scat pack' into the Honcho, maybe call the resulting model "Honcho's Scat Pack"
