    ...too much shit to list.
The canvas is definitely nice on the Summit. The vinyl is without a doubt waterproof though.

I did find it interesting that the new fabric on the GFC has zero flame retardant capability. I camp in the winter and there’s no way I would cook inside or run a heater without some sort of FR fabric.

Really good article. They did a good job of pointing out the pros/cons of each camper. Having only seen the Drifter and GFC in person, it was really informative to get more in depth information on the other wedge campers out there.

With that being said, I’m happy I went with the Drifter, especially before they (and every other wedge camper) increased their base price. No kind of buyer’s remorse AT ALL!

I’ve been saying this for a long time and the expo guys pointed it out too, @Overlanerd’s experience with multiple campers is truly evident. You can tell that every detail had been thought out to a tee! Kudos to you @Overlanerd. @Iggy on the other hand, idk what the hell you’ve done to contribute LOL jk. The yin and yang you guys have is very complimentary. Congrats on getting the Editor’s Choice award. You guys deserve it.

100% agree. If they came to market sooner I probably would've gone with them. That being said the article laid it all out. I still think GFC was a much better bargain at the $5k price tag, pricing now is a bit much for a fancy rtt. Just depends what you want. It's nice that the consumers have choices ranging from a truck cap to rtt to both to GFC to Drifter/AT to Alu Cab, etc. Competition has been kind to outdoors enthusiasts. I remember the days searching high and low for a goddam flippac.

I agree about the competition. These campers probably wouldn’t be as good as they are without it!

I kinda get why VO took a while to get in the market. I think there’s even a quote in the article about them perfecting the product before releasing it. Can’t really argue against it - it’s hard to find anyone that owns one that has a complaint about it.

Anyway, so glad expo put the article out. Now folks can make informed choices about which camper is best for them - which isn’t always the same for everyone. Cheers to all those wedge camper companies!

Very good article and confirmed my opinion of what choice I'd go with in the future.

That article is just bias confirmation for myself... I mean, the only dislikes for the Drifter was the “feel” of the tent material and the bed platform not being on struts. I see both of those as actual positive features in my opinion.

    Vagabond.
We'll see when the time comes and I'm in the market to make a purchase if they are willing to do a toolbox like the Tradesman. It is so nice not having a kitchen tote to put in and out of the truck. I guess if I had some type of kitchen built inside I might feel different but in the FWC I can only recall cooking once inside and that was only boiling water for ramen because it was super windy outside.

The article said what I’ve been saying for a while. GFC is a better version of a RTT/topper combo and its usage should be for people that camp in shorter durations with infrequent longer trips and want to keep the DD everyday aspect of a truck.

Still think VO should make a tray bed version of Overlanderd’s OG. By far my favorite build.

    Exactly.

If you want a lumber rack with a nifty looking RTT to camp out of, that’s cool...

    More powah to ya folks.

The article that is being discussed does a fairly decent job of describing the realities of each of the products. It, unfortunately, hits a bit too close to home for some that may be inwardly dissatisfied with the flaws of their products and have to outwardly poke at others.

Since I poked at others, I will state the dissatisfaction I have with my product(Vagabond Drifter).

I wish I had mine powdercoated. I wish I had mine pre-wired for solar. I wish mine had the optional insulation kit.

If you notice, I am not dissatisfied with the product. More that I wish I had currently available options, available to me when I purchased mine. Oh well, early adopters get the grins first.

Don't think anyone is telling anyone how to use their shit. Just voicing an opinion. GFC is better at being a truck than the others. The others are better at full time living and long trips cause extra bed space while having the bed deployed. It's like saying a 2500 is better for towing than a mid size, they can do both jobs but the 2500 is clearly the winner.

    Assumptions bud.

I’ve been using mine as a work truck. I haul all kindsa crap. I have the Frontrunner side doors. The access they give me is exceptional. Before I had a fully built Goose Gear interior, I hauled anything I wanted. Same shit put in bed before the shell and after. Volumetric capacity doesn’t change.

I get that you like and enjoy your product.

I generally happy with my XL GFC. I was an early adopter and took advantage of the original pricing. $5200 total price for a power coated shell w/ wedge tent and bed that fits perfectly on my F150 6'-6" bed. It has some flaws to be sure but I don't see how I could get more for the price. I like the sleek design which leads the pack when it comes to aerodynamics. I to keep MPG up. With this rig loaded up I can get 19-20 MPG overall.

I personally feel the GFC is hyped up on IG for what it is. I know an early adopter of a GFC that has 80 nights in it and is regretting his purchase of the GFC right now. GFC customer service has been questionable also.

To me the GFC is not designed for heavy use. Maybe for your occasional person that goes out once every 3 months camping. If GFC was smart they would use this guy as an example and fix all his issues and make the GFC more durable.

You can read about the issues here.

I don't regret my purchase. There are many more GFC's out there than the others so there are going to be more complaints. I too believe that they brought it to market prematurely, not properly tested and got caught up in the flood of orders. It would've cost me thousands of dollars ($4000?)more to go with some of the alternatives also which weren't available at the time. I use that money for upgraded tires, rims, awning, refrigeration, interior, etc. The flaws will be dealt with over time.

What was $4,000 more? Was it because of options that are not available on the GFC or initial purchase price?

reminds me of this one time when i went to vegas and forgot underwear. so i went to target and got a cheap set of drawers to wear for the weekend instead of blowing lapdance money at nordstroms. they worked well enough for the weekend and lapdances were better than having extra undies when i got home
