That might not be a manual case.

I could be wrong but I thought all FJ T-cases were manual( stick without acuator motor), the point of the swap for me!

No, but why would you do such a thing unless you want a full-time four-wheel-drive truck?

Those cases are considerably longer than the regular manual shift case and you will need to have custom driveshaft made

Id really like awd. The truck is supercharged and id love to be able to put the power to the ground. Itd make the truck a lot safer imo. The thing is a deathtrap in the rain lol

I do remember reading something about this. Arent they about an inch longer? My truck is also lowered 3.5" in the back, so the driveshafts are definitely gonna need some work. Im thinking ill get a case and test fit it, and see get measurements for custom shafts

I already have an auto case waiting to go in but ive thought about it more and id really like awd

Shh!! My truck is a sleeper :luvya:

For awd you wound need an electronic shift case from a 4th gen 4runner with a v6. You Shound be able to use the tranny from the 4runner also. FYI 4runner parts are cheeper than taco parts

I also forgot to mention im trying to get rid of as much of the electrical crap as possible. Already deleted the add with the fj 6spd tube. I want to go with the manual shifting case out of the fj if possible. Think i remember seeing someone else that installed it in their truck. Think it was the gentlemen that put a torsen out of an FRS in his front diff

My end goal is to have a 6spd awd taco with a lockable center diff that the fjc has

I’m going the same way with the front diff. Already have it.

I dosent want to cut holes in the floor so I opted for electrical. The truck doesn’t know the 4wd exists and only tells the computer the speed and Neutral position to protect 4low case anyone else drives my truck

Yeah thats the way go imo. The ADD is just a failure waiting to happen.

I am scared of electrical so id much rather cut the floor. Already have the fjc 6spd shift boot to keep things clean looking. I have a auto t-case right now, and ive been getting the itch to install it which is why im back down the awd route since i only want to cut a hole in my floor once, and i want it right

I wonder if the shifter comes thru the floor in the same spot for the auto and manual fj case when bolted up to a taco trans

If so, i could cut my floor and satisfy my itch to put the fj case in until i can figure out the awd.

The shifters are in the same spot for the AWD and 4x4 transfer cases, the case length is different on the back side.

To further clarify, you do NOT want a full time transfer case which is the fully electronic case filled with all the crap you are trying to get rid of. There are three types of transfer case operating systems: part time, full time, and multi mode.

In full time transfer cases, there are two electrical motors to control the transfer case; the high and low synchronizer assembly and another dedicated to the center differential lock function.

In multi mode transfer cases the high and low synchronizer assembly is engaged and disengaged using a floor mounted shift lever and 2WD/4WD and center differential lock are controlled by the transfer shift actuator

The transfer case in the 03 4runner multi mode case is known as the VF4AM.

The FJ cruiser transfer case is known as the VF4B which would be a direct swap for us tacoma 6 speed drivers.

You can see the differences here. This is the multi-mode case found in the FJ cruiser:
    DriversideFJ_fc2530ccf244f25d83a0061cae545fb10a97c1d1.jpg

Here's the standard VF2A case from the automatic FJ cruisers

    DSC04638640x480_b5c11645285722c6ea3b6e178373f988c2362362.jpg

A cutaway of the internals of the multi-mode case will show you that the center differential is behind the shifter base which causes the transfer case to be longer than the part time case.

Great info, thanks for explaining this, saving this for future reference.

So just to be clear, the 6spd fjc case should be a direct swap for my 6spd tacoma without needing to swap the input shaft like would be needed if i installed an auto fj tcase right?

The only problem would then be the need for custom driveshafts due to the differences in tcase length

I dident thing the 3rd gen runner case will work with the 2nd gen taco. 3rd gen runner is 1st gen taco.

And the multi-mode case from a 4th gen 4runner has 2 electronic shift forks. One for 4wd and center locker, other for hi to low shifts
