These are the chips with “raised surface”. Thoughts on light wet sanding before touch up? Any other ideas to smooth these out before I touch up the chips?

It’s amazing that with all of the scratches and chips on this truck these are the only ones that bother me!

D*mn, what did you run through? And ya the paint chips pretty easy on these trucks. I would definatley sand those down first and then touch up. I know Dr. Colorchip works well if you are up for springing for a bit more on touch up paint over the OEM pen.

Who knows, I had the mud flaps off for like 2 days after I ripped them off in the desert before the RekGens came in. This is Arizona, there is gravel everywhere.

I never use a pressure washer to wash my vehicles for this very reason. Bucket and sponge, rag or my bare hands. Pressure from a garden hose is plenty if you just let the vehicle soak for a couple minutes with soapy water before rinsing. Been doing it all my life with no problems whatsoever. Used to use a pressure washer on the trucks at work. That’s why I know enough not to use them at home.

    lol.

You can use a power washer safely on a vehicle. Just remember, if it hurts on your skin, it can damage the paint.

I have always been under the impression that the pressure washer method tends to strip the clear coat off, in little increments over time. Eventually the clear coat is gone, leaving the paint exposed to the elements.... I dunno.
I wash weekly, bucket and micro fiber mitt, used as a rag.

It’s pretty harmless as long as your not blasting up close and using it all the time. Again like anything in moderation, even a 2 bucket wash method will leave swirls, etc over time.

That looks like you may have scratched it with your shoes while having dirt on it and it slowly cracked the paint open.

I worked at a Lexus dealer car wash and I was instructed to completely pressure wash every car before sending them through the wash. Not sure the psi, but Im sure it was way higher than a small electric washer. The only thing I had to be careful about was if a car already had chips. If I hit that it made big chips out of little chips.

Point being, I doubt the management there would want me to pressure wash the cars if it was likely to damage the paint. Especially since some of those vehicles sell for around 100k.

I use my 2700 PSI gas pressure washer on my truck and wife's car on a regular basis. Foam cannon with a black (65 degree suds nozzle) and then the white 40 degree as a rinse. I use bucket and micro fiber mitt, after the suds in applied, then change nozzles and rinse. I keep the nozzle about 2.5 to 3 feet from the surface. You can't use the washer like you might cleaning your deck or driveway where you get about 1 foot away and let the pressure to blast away.

I use a washing mitt and elbow grease. It gets in all of the tiny cracks and crevices perfect every time.
