I just wanted to let you guys know buyer beware that this has occurred with my Tacoma and I couldn’t be more disappointed. This is my second Toyota that I have bought and it will absolutely be my last. Every time it rained this last winter water started leaking through the cabin of the car in the roof light console (see attached photo). It has occurred multiple times and I have taken it into the dealership to get fixed twice.

Both times I took it in they said they had fixed the problem. Both times it kept leaking. After I took it home the second time there was another rain storm and it is now leaking again and I am reluctant to take it back in a third time because it is now summer and my warranty is going to run out and when I called corporate they said once your warranty runs out you’re basically up sh*t creek. Why would I bring it to them a third time to have them tell me “it’s fixed” when it’s not and I cannot prove it due to lack of rain in the summer (can’t seem to recreate it with a hose).

I put an extremely large down payment on this car as I wanted a low monthly and I bought the Tacoma for its touted reliability. Now I have a bunch of equity tied up in a faulty truck. I requested Toyota buy back the truck or help me in some way to get out from under it. I just got a letter from corporate saying that from their point of view there is nothing wrong with the car that would affect the value, use or safety. That is literally the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard and I have to say I am SO disappointed. Not the way to treat a loyal customer and I don’t think Toyota realizes the damage they do when they treat people this way.

I would be pissed. Take it back to the dealer again and demand a permanent fix.

Most roof leaks either come from the 3rd brake light or the roof rack.

Sell it and buy a 1st gen.

Way different sentiment in the 3rd gen forum than the 1st gen!

Ya different dealers are owned by different people. Some are strict an a$@ holes but some are very cool. I got lucky that my toyota dealership is willing to help on pretty much anything. Corporate is a joke with that response. So weird where your leak is coming from.

I honestly just don’t think Toyota is what it used to be. Funny enough my mom had the same problem her Lexus’ about 5-6 years ago except hers was coming through the sun roof. I figured it was just some 1 in a million thing and bought my Tacoma without hesitation - apparently I was wrong. And Lexus was awful with her too. In hindsight I probably should have taken warning with her experience.

I’m going Ford F-150 I think. Been hearing good things. I’m just mind blown at their response. It’s offensive and I’m very upset that I’m going to take a financial loss with this thing when I didn’t do anything wrong and it’s still under factory warranty.

lol if you think toyota is bad, wait for the ford to inevitably have issues and you'll see how bad a dealership can be

I would try another dealership and get it fixed if you decide to sell it rather than trade in

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, I would drop the headliner and look for the leak while someone sprays the roof/truck down. That's a hell of a leak. But if you are sure about getting rid of the truck, at least you will/should get a good price for it.

Maybe pop off the rubber over the roof rail mount points and see if there are any clogs in there? Leaking through the shark fin?

Well as stated they crapped out on both me and my mom and Toyota told both of us to go F ourselves. Can’t get much worse than that.
