If it isn't the third brake light, its has to be the sunroof or roof rack. Should be a easy fix since its under warranty.

Move to Arizona, JK. You might want to check the lemon laws of your state. I would contact Toyota, maybe they can extend a warranty on it. After they "fix" it take it to a high pressure washer and verify its fixed.

    Bummer. I’d be upset too.

If you sell it to a private party, I’d suggest being upfront about the leak. You wouldn’t want someone selling you a truck with this issue but not mentioning it.

But I would press on with a different dealer and corporate—document it all—and I think you’ll probably get it sorted out.

If I tossed out every product and never bought that brand again that I had and issue with, I probably would be suck buying rocks by now. Every vehicle is made with thousands of parts and many are hand assembled. It is really a miracle that any manufacturer can produce a modern vehicle with so few faults. It sucks that you are having a problem, but it is completely unrealistic to expect them to buy back your truck just because you have a problem. If you think buying some other brand is the answer, if you can show me one that will stand behind their product and offer free replacements when there is a problem, I will gladly stand behind you in line to buy one.

That being said, it shouldn't be hard to find the leak. Get a hose out and a dry day and spray a few areas until you find the leak. There are only so many places that water can come in. The windshield, under the trim on the roof, antenna, etc. Keep in mind that water can travel so don't eliminate the back just because it is in the front.

Something tells me we aren't getting the full story here.

Have you had the windshield replaced?
Have you taken out the rubber strips on the roof to see if the holes for the factory roof rack were uncovered at some point?
Do you have a light bar and drilled into the pillar or roof to mount it?

Pull the headliner and drive through a car wash a few times and record it? Probably leaking from the windshield or third brake light and the water found a channel up front where it’s leaking

    Possibly not sure

    Lol

I understand your point of view but I personally wouldn’t have to throw everything I own out. Not even close. Typically when I buy a quality product it stands up to reputation. But yes this isn’t the first time I’ve had something go wrong with a purchase but typically a good company will stand by their product, offer excellent service, and not give a response anything close to what they gave me. This is a major let down and wouldn’t have expected it or their response.

I have tried to recreate it in car washes as well as standing in my bed and hosing down my roof for 20 minutes straight. No luck. Only seems to happen with rain - I’m guessing because it’s constant for a very long period of time.

Trust me you’re getting the full story - I’m just sharing this because I feel things like this need to get out there, it’s not cool how this went down. People should know especially if they are experiencing similar things.

I have not replaced the windshield. I have not taken the strips off. Toyota said they checked all that, sealed the brake light and tore down the upholstery on the roof - and it’s still leaking. I do not have a light bar, roof rack, sunroof, or any aftermarket products other than an mx4 backflip which when folded up doesn’t even touch the rear light.

Next time it rains you need to take the crawl control console out and look up inside there.

This, had to do this with my "last" Jeep (Grand Cherokee) because the dealer was zero help. It was a PITA, but I found and sealed the leak.

I would pull up the roof rail trim and see if the factory bolt holes for the roof rack rails are exposed. Takes 30sec to do on each side.

OP, do you know if you have the update 3rd brake light? I thought I read somewhere, that if there was a leak and confirmed from there; it was updated with the LED brake light. The cargo lamps are LED but not the brake bulb, I think.

EDIT: Just noticed that maybe they are all LED cargo lights? But looks like it might be an updated seal on the assembly itself. I'll see if I can find a part number for it.

EDIT2: Here is the part number for the updated stop lamp 81570-04050. Idk if the part numbers are listed on the paperwork they give you? but at least this would be something you can check

I had two Toyota trucks that leaked. 08 tundra and 17 Tacoma. After the 08, I avoided Toyota for 7 years. Bought the 17 and it leaked the first month and they could not find the source. I think it was a weld. Sold it and bought a 19, six months no problems so far. I’ve come to the conclusion quality of all new vehicles is down - it’s hit or miss. Vehicles that leak make me crazy.

This! Idk where you live but most states, if the same problem persists after three attempts at resolving it then there’s a lemon law case.

I would stay away from Ford personally. I had a 2016 F150 Lariat 4X4 I traded against my 19OR , it had nice features inside and great gas millage but the resale on them is garbage! Took me 3 years to break even with me putting a good amount of money down at the beginning.

Good luck and I would do like other have mentioned by trying a different dealership then push for lemon law. Worse case I would trade it and not pass the leak on to another unsuspecting buyer (just my opinion).

From where its coming in at, it has to be the windshield, take it back and demanded they take out and reinstall the windshield.
