It's interesting to sit on insta and see what off-road pages are talking about it, and what ones are ignoring it

I love going to Pismo and if I'm reading this and the only thing I don't like is the reduced acreage.

As I read it, only OHV use will be banned, so street legal vehicles like our trucks will still be allowed out on the beach and in the dunes.

Sucks for the OHV guys in their quads and stuff, but at the same time when I'm out there it's those guys that are the loudest and most disruptive, and I'd love to not have to see giant 5th wheel trailers lining the beach and running compressors all night.

I'm sure someone will call this a slippery slope, but I dunno.

Don't use that petition site http://chng.it/Dqq9GpXH

It seems bogus to me and probably just gathering your email and other info to sell. Use the California Off Road Vehicle Association or CORVA website to offer your options about Pismo.

This is called divide and conquer and you're falling for it hook line and sinker. When they come for what you like, the OHV guys will be already long gone.

Not falling for anything man. I recognize that it could be a slippery slope.

But I also know the least pleasurable thing about going to Pismo for me are the OHVs anyway. When I'm there, what I see is the OHVs are responsible for most of the activities that people complain about. I also don't care for the giant toy hauler blocking off with caution tape tracts of sand and lining up end to end to the point it's hard to find a spot to turn left to get deeper into the sand.

When I heard of the closure the first thought I had was they should limit the area to street legal vehicles only. So yeah, I have no issue with that part.

Losing acreage sucks and everyone agrees on that. It's already smaller than what it was a decade ago when I first started going, and everyone tells me how it was so much better pre 198x but I never got experience that since I'm not old enough.

I’m up here right now and before this announcement was made I was doing some reading about what’s been going on out on the dunes this year.

This year has had more deaths out on the dunes than recent years, just last week a quad rider was hit by a drunk driver killing him. Then there was an unauthorized concert where a shooting took place.

I guess one of the big issues is staffing rangers to patrol the dunes. According to the article I read the rangers have ten openings on the staff but no one is applying because they can make more being a cop in SLO.

Here’s the article in case anyone wants to do some reading.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.sanluisobispo.com/opinion/editorials/article231411793.html

Not sure if these events have anything to do with the proposed changes, but it’s probably in some people’s minds.

They better not close. I plan on being there in August!

All kidding aside it would really suck if they close.

I agree 100%. Out of the handful of times I've been to Pismo, I only really enjoyed one of those trips and it was because it was during the middle of the week in the winter. Hardly anyone there. Going in the summer on a weekend or holiday is the f'ing worst with all quads and drunk assholes driving around. I saw some guys on quads chasing around a bunch of those birds on shore in the morning once trying to run them over.

I also understand where the residents are coming from in that all the traffic, especially the non-street legal vehicle kind, is disruptive to their community. But at the same time, the park brings in a big chunk of revenue for the community.

I don't think Pismo should be shut down, I signed the petition. But they do need to do a better job of managing it. The numerous accidents, injuries and deaths out there this year alone (and it's only halfway through the year) is proof enough of that.

Poor management attracts the wrong crowd and leads to accidents and fatalities is what gets people's attention and makes them want to shut these things down. Everyone's all about "tread lightly" except when it comes to Pismo, and this is what comes of that.

I went out 2 days while I was up there last week. Couldn’t ever open it up with so many people on quads and darting all over the place, felt like I was out on the river watching ten year olds on wave runners.

The amount of RVs over the 4th weekend always gives me the creeps.

Sucks because it’s so beautiful and a rare experience to drive dunes on the beach in America.

yeah I agree, although contained OHV parks have never really been my thing in the first place...I'd rather be on a remote trail somewhere. But there are very few parts of the west coast where you can actually drive and camp in your vehicle on the beach other than Pismo, at least in CA. It's fun to go there in the off-season when there are less people around.

My first time there was in the summer a few years ago and it was like being at the world's biggest frat party...couldn't hardly sleep because people were blasting stereos and driving around quads and bikes all night long around the camp sites. No thanks
