Sunex makes some good stuff. That underhood light looks sexy.

I picked up the HF underhood light about a year or so ago and it's been pretty good for me (other than degradation in battery life). The attachment mechanism is pretty versatile. It has hooks as well as magnetic feet on bungee cords. I used it camping one time and just stuck it to the side of my truck when we were putting out the campfire. Puts out some good light. You can usually get it on sale for like $36 or so.

 

Damn, that might need to go on the Christmas list.

 

one of those things that seems awesome but in practicality is meh IMO. Great if you are doing things directly on top (like checking fuses) or doing spark plugs on inline engines. But soon as try to do spark plugs on a V6/V8 or have to do something more like a water pump my go to is still the Astro 30SL Flexible Light. nice being able to stick it to the frame and bend it so the light is right where its needed.


Though i do have the Astro version in my wishlist still even after using my buddys for awhile >.>

@T4RFTMFW back to the pliers debacle.

Here are the Lisle wrench/pliers holders I got a little too excited about when they were on sale at Aircraft Tool and Supply. I think I bought 4. Or maybe 6.
Frankly, they suck at both jobs.

For wrenches, they waste space for smaller sizes. When I had 4 in my wrench drawer, I fixated on all the underutilized space. No bueno. And I still have two full sets of Snapons to accommodate that are still in boxes in the bottom drawer.



It was too late to return them all, so I started hacking to experiment with pliers:


Here is the height constraint. Not bad.


With the cut-off ends, I thought I'd see if I could use those for random stuff. Meh.


I got one of these from Harbor Freight, and I'll cut it down to fit and put it there instead.

For the bench-top pliers set, I got this, which I love. You can see the wide range of size and thicknesses it can hold, and note that smaller spring-loaded handles are captured, too. I had bought their other version, but did not care for it, so exchanged it for this one. It can be used in drawer, but that is dumb because it doesn't allow you to pull the tools straight up.


Finally, for wrenches, I'm considering the new Gear Wrench ones, which allow reversible orientation that saves a lot of space while still allowing the wrenches to be readable and angled all the same way. I swear Ernst or Hall also has some reverse holders, but I can't find them right now.

For wrenches the ones snap on sells work best for space.can probably get elsewhere, but that’s where I get mine.sometimes simpler is better.

 

Nope just plastic. With adhesive on the bottom.

 

Ho ho ho...now I have an impact gun

 

Watched 2019 24hrs of nurburgring race and every single pit crew used that exact impact . I have that exact tool and use it daily . I also have the 2014 model which is a little bigger too and it still works like the day I bought it except it looks trashed . Good buy except it looks a little out of place in your pic

 

We CPAs have to bust lug nuts too!

Electic guns have really taken hold in the Baja/desert race scene too.

What? No honey... no way to fix it. It’s just old. Told you we should’ve went with a bigger more expensive one the first time... they last longer.

 

Lol I just replaced my pressure switch too. Did that and an oil change on the free compressor I got 3 years ago. Been a champ.

I also just bought an electric impact for trail fixes. I opted for the lower torque Makita vs their high torque because when I measured their hight torque in Home Depot it was damn near a foot long!

 

So...show and tell time.

Anyone remember how long it took for your 44” order to come in. I scooped one up with the 15% off coupon in blue and patiently waiting. It was nice to see they dropped to $490 as well before the best coupon offered on them came through.

 

13 minutes for them to load it into the back of the truck. My store i frequent had it on hand.

 

Some good ideas in this thread. When I was turning wrenches and we got a new Mechanic in the shop we could pretty much tell what kind of job he was going to do by the way his tool box was put together.
