False. You can hammer aluminum back into place.

I called RCI and talked to them about their aluminum skids. They were very proud of their aluminum skids and said that as long as I’m not rock crawling and bouncing off the skids constantly that they would hold up. And if I ever had an issue they would take care of it, aka cracking or something (not caused by my own stupidity)

Yeah but at least you don’t have to drive across Nebraska this time....

Maybe you can sweet talk @Cav_BluTRD into towing you back lol

I thought aluminium would crack if you kept reshaping it.... :anonymous:

@Willy224 does that mean your welder showed up too? I've got a few ideas....

@Cav_BluTRD Gona have to check out that reroute. I like the RCI skids but that exhaust cutout... Yew

I’m going to sound like an advertisement here so bear with me. For bash plates I choose steel from @RelentlessFabrication, but I have a heavy Tacoma that tips the scales quite high and I wheel it hard-ish.

Lots of great products out there to be sure, I buy Relentless Fab kit because Eric has been with us here at TacomaWorld for at least as long as I have, if not longer. By now you all know what happens to vendors that screw customers around here and he’s outlasted them all by keeping his promises and delivering what I feel is an excellent product.

Truth, but I intentionally use my bash plates as a planned point of contact and as a way to control the slide over or around obstacles that many avoid. Ask @Sasquatch3153 about that as he witnessed it first hand from the passenger seat. It freaks new spotters and some passengers out.

Correct, you can hammer any metal into shape. The difference between steel and aluminum is that steel slides easier while aluminum tends to deform faster and lose material easier as well.

Consider you’re intended use of the armor and then plan for a 20% safety margin in increased performance over that will likely serve anyone perfectly. Things go wrong, known tracks get washed out, we take wrong turns onto more difficult tracks than we intended to drive on. Having equipment that is hardier than most of your needs pays for itself at those times.

I have the exhaust reroute which brings it from underneath to behind the case. Austin Wolf at www.wolf-fab.com did it for me and added a heat bracket to protect the actuator from exhaust heat when idling in the woods. He’s done quite a few and he does excellent work. I know I sound like a broken record when I constantly send people to him but he’s an excellent fabricator with nearly any material.

Maybe i'm just over looking it, but i didn't see any skids on the Relentless website. Is it a call to order kind of thing ?

I may have to get a hold of Austin. Freeburg is only about an hour and a half from me so thats not too terrible.
