I'm planning on trading in my 2016 AC. Its black and scratched to high hell from being used...it is of course, a truck. I'm wondering if the 2019s have a better, more scratch resistant black paint or if its the same. I'll probably get a 2020 when they come out, but maybe a different color. Black seems to be really difficult to maintain.

    Thoughts?

I would assume the same if not worse. Car paint has been getting more and more fragile and time goes on. Black is the worst color choice if you’re worried about scratches.

They all scratch easy. Black just shows the scratches best.

It’s not the paint, it’s the color. Sure you can argue that the quality in paint has gone down, is thinner, etc.. but bottom line, black and the gloss clear coat act like a mirror. Any imperfection will show. If you don’t want to deal with it I suggest getting another color because scratches and swirl-marks will appear if you stare at it long enough. I had a black truck once, I’ve been buying white cars ever since

The paints are water based for environmental concerns. And are softer my 16 was black same issues, now I have silver or in my youth I called it primer gray.

I am tired of rubbing on my black truck. Every time you go off road you will get new scratches. They are easy to see on black but the would be the same on any color just less noticeable.

I had one black car back in 1975. That cured me. No black cars since.

For sure you will still scratch. I have a 2018 Taco and every time I wash it I find a new scratch. Easily noticeable. Just get another color to hide it better. I love black but I think my next color Taco won’t be black.

    None....yet.
Black is by far the nicest when clean.....so, for 30 minutes after i wash mine, its gorgeous. But it does truck stuff all day every day, so its inevitable. :notsure:

If I were to buy another truck I would get another color. But I am old and figure this truck will more than likely outlast me. It will get old and get scratched but it is mine.

I just live with the scratches. I take care of it, but don't get too worked up either.

I quit buying dark trucks in 1985 and never looked back, and vowed to never buy a dark one again. Until I bought this MGM regular cab. In my defense I was excited just to find a unicorn, but I find "new" imperfection in the paint every time I drive it. I also think about getting it wrapped at least once a day. :notsure:
