3rd Gen Tacoma Power Folding Mirrors

OK! shipment arrived today. I just finished unpacking. I really like the anti scratch bags you used as well as the anti-static bag for the module. I have some pics I'll post up in a few minutes.

 

I had intended to take the unboxing pictures to also help with repacking to return my mirror housings. But, the packing is straight forward for the return, but very professional and I felt compelled to share.

 

I am going to re read the installation post a few times to familiarize my self with the harness again before I tear into the door panels tomorrow morning.

 

I am going to try to cut the factory bezel to fit the switch first. If that goes south, I will enlarge the hole and use the MESO bezel.

Side note: there are 5 latches in total around that housing, it is a little tricky to extricate the switch from the housing. If you go this route, Take your time and make sure you have 2 or 3 very small screw drivers to carefully pry the housing off the latch while applying gentle pressure to push the switch out. Slowly and carefully work your way around and it will eventually release.

 

Damn....still waiting for my kit to arrive. Tracking says Monday. I guess I’m installing next weekend.

 

I have the driver's side installed, I'm still working on the wiring. Here are a few shots of the mirror in place. please excuse the upper housing. Bugs are crazy here right now and I wanted to wait until after install to wash the truck. I figured it would be a good test drive for the folding feature.

 

Install tips.
put the windows down first.
remove the speakers from the doors after you have the interior panels off.

 

Next install tips.
1: Be sure the splice gives you a good connection before you plug it in. Take the time and test for voltage before you complete assembly.
2: BE SURE you have the crimp connectors facing the proper way before you push them into the harness connector.
@KTJO 4x4 and I spent the entire day chasing down an issue because I didn't seat the connector properly.

 

I’m waiting to see the switch cuts and what tools you used, what worked best and what you’d do different.

Ideally from everyone on this last batch… please. And if you could snap a few pictures during and after would be great. Thank you

 

I have gobs of pictures. I have to go thorough and put every thing in order and add some captions. I will then pass this on to @KTJO 4x4 to incorporate into her instructions. I will be working on the switch bezel tomorrow, so hopefully tomorrow night I will have an update on how the cuts went.

I actually finally had time to make my own DTRL PNP Harness for my Mirror Turn Signals so that they will actually turn on and off with my DTRL. This plugs directly into my Headlight OEM Connector and then plugs into my Driver that goes to my RGB Mirror Turn Signals.



I might actually get to finish my own tomorrow

 

Welp, can't get to installing my Power Mirrors when they come in.
Someone was nice enough to leave their "autograph"
on my bedside...


So going to be out of commission for a week, two or so.

Just got it ceramic coated a 2 weeks ago, and my Meso Ultimate LED Taillights got caught up in this... Super Sad Panda.

Is that harness tubing soft and extremely flexible?? Like the same tubing that goes over the headlight harness (among other places too like for the harness we use your pnp for the pop n lock? It really looks like it in the picture. Can you please pm me with a source for this? I have been looking forever and I can only find the harder and obviously not nearly as flexible tubing and bending kinks it. I need some for some of my wiring mods of various diameter ( actually one of them is that pnp pop n lock harness for the ultimate factory look

If anyone is interested in this DTRL Plug-N-Play Harness let me know. I can look into getting these made. This plugs in to the back of the OEM DTRL Connector and then if you have MESO Turn Signals or if you have similar drivers this would plug into those by installing a JST Connector onto the White, Black, and Orange Wires of your Driver.



For others wondering the same question about the Flexible Tubing I used for this Harness, it is the same stuff that is used for the Extension Harness with the Power Folding Mirrors. It is soft and flexible for sure.

 

Day Time Running Lights Harness?
Sorry if I have missed it, but what is it for?

 

It allows my Turn Signals in my Mirrors to operate with my Day Time Running Lights in my Headlights

 

Got the mirrors installed and they work perfectly! The set up and install is time consuming, but easy. I will post pictures later. Great work @KTJO 4x4 !!!!!!!!!

 

My attept to cut the switch pocket in the bezel did not end well. I spent the better part of the afternoon, with a razor blade and a dremel. I could have lived with the cut edges. But, after the hole was cut and the latches fitted, The fold switch was not centered to my liking, so I went with the included bezel. I will include one pic of my first attempt.
I measured the included bezel and drew up a little template. I then found the placement I liked best. I cut the opening a hair too small to start so I could adjust and shift at the end. It does sit a bit forward, and therefore does have a slight overhang, but that's in the front and I won't see it. I could have moved the template back a little, but I was already a little close to the window control switches for my taste.




Notice how close the switch housing is to the attachment clip on the right side of this picture. I should have thought about push it back a bit.

 

On to install in the vehicle.

This is where that alignment tab is supposed to sit. I had to clearance it a bit due to where I mounted the switch housing.

After that it was all good.
