Well, we went looking at new 3rd gens. I still prefer my mint 1st gen. But, I need more power because we're pulling a small travel trailer around the US. If I keep this one I needing more power. I've been looking at this for some time: https://www.cxracing.com/turbo-kit-toyota-scion-lexus-truck-hilux-tacoma/TRB-KIT-5VZFE-IC-KIT
    [IMG]

I've had and built turbo motors(Ford) in the past. Far past. I don't do much wrenching anymore due to arthritis. I'd have to have my buddy do or at least help with install. Anyone have any experience with this setup on a 1st gen?

So I mean low end torque being the main benifit of a turbo set up but those supercharger are SO much easier to install, what's making you lean towards a turbo?

Since we have no room in the engine bay other than the passenger side, you're option is either a rear mounted one or limiting yourself to just using one side of your potential power output.

1uz swap into your mint first gen. Get the best of both world. Then if you want more power to play with, add a trd supercharger.

i didn't buy the full kit but im running the headers and one of their turbos. 2 years no issues so far. build quality and fit was great. removing factory manifolds was a terrible job though

My wife has already brought that up. She just drove my daughter-in-laws brand new 4Runner Limited so her BMW 3 series convertible has just been listed for sale.

Nice, you rectified what I didn't like about the kit, the super low mounted intercooler that won't work with skids or even an aftermarket bumper. Nicely done man.

Do you have a build thread?

OP, I have the full kit just not installed. From initial inspection it looks really good

I have their IS300 bolt on kit and aside from the oil drain it's great. I made my own copper hard line return vs using their janky braided setup that would be a miracle to servive running through the manifold. Other than that, impressive for the price.

sorry no build thread but il answer any questions.

yea a big intercooler wouldn't work with a winch mounted bumper so i cut out latch and rad support to put one higher up.

F that, get a 4th gen 4Runner with the 4.7L V8. Cheaper, more reliable and more power.

    Yeah, tried that.

Then I realized they are extremely hard to find. I spent months looking for one. They are even more rare than Tacomas with good frames in the rust belt.

Also, are you aware the 4.0 has 10 more hp than the v8, only slightly less torque, and better gas mileage?

Throw a set of headers on the V8 and you surpass the 4.0. Add a supercharger and well...

Gas mileage, from what I have read, is about the same between them. Guess it depends on what years we are talking here. For the $, I'm going with the V8 T4R. Working on that now actually. They aren't to difficult to find for under $8k in my area. And no rust to worry about.

Put a turbo and tune on a 2.7 and it’ll surpass the 4.0, too. What’s your point?

I thought we were comparing stock motors...

Forced induction, tune, headers. Motor is still stock like that unless you build it. Not saying to 4.0 is a bad motor but my preference for the money is still the V8. Also a 2klb towing capacity increase from the 4.0 to the 4.7.
