I have BFGoodrich KO tires on my Tacoma. They were on the truck when I bought it. They have 42,000 miles on them and have been on there for 6 years. It is kind of looking like they are dry rotted.. could anybody help me out?

I wouldn't worry about it until it gets worse, I've had a few worse than that over the years.

Drive more and this wont happen ;)

Honestly, tires are 6 years old, so theyre getting older. Its not terrible, but the rubber is definitely showing its age.

I had KOs on my Trail Team FJ, bought in 2011 and took the tires off in 2016, they looked comparable with ironically 40k on them. Most tires are warrantied to 50-60k and the normal driver does that in 4-5 years. I've seen stuff like this with low mileage drivers, and a lot with people running tires like the OE Prius tires. They are warrantied to like 80k. The tires last forever and look all dry after 5 or 6 years.

Dang. Yeah I just got the truck less than a year ago and I’ve put 14,500 miles on it.

I don't skimp on tires. When the tires start to show age you should think about replacing them. Traveling down the road at 80 MPH with the family in the car needs to be safe.

Those are fine, when the cracks get bigger and going down the sidewall, then worry.

You are close, those cracks are going to get bigger soon. Plus as they age the rubber gets hard and no longer sticks to pavement as well. Especially wet pavement. I'd replace them before winter snows.

They recommend 6-7 year replacement regardless of tread. But that can vary somewhat depending on where you live and how you store the vehicle. It is sunlight that breaks down the rubber. If you live someplace like AZ and park the vehicle outdoors they break down sooner. A more northern climate and parked indoors and you might get a little more life.
