I'm eyeing this route with my lab... especially with a baby coming in December... damn car seat mod is inevitable, and was thinking the softopper option works best, especially the lighter weight factor when not needing it on the bed.

We did the same with out 77lb lab few weeks back up and back to NH.

only downside (even with moving blankets) was the hard plastic backs when the seats are folded down...

I have contemplated getting around to building a gap platfgap similar to @TheTacomaInn access cab platform...just enough to bridge the gap, he ends up half on the ground and half in the seat.

have used hammock style and full seat covers, but they all end up ripping before the covers are worn enough.

with the baby coming this winter, I've already lined up actual seat covers for the both front and back.

We have been using the Kurgo crash rated harness (swivel lanyard) and their static line, both in the rear seat and in the bed.20190617_172545.jpg

The wife and I have a 105lb Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Since it's just the 3 of us we keep the back seats folded down with a nonslip drawer liner under a big thick quilt for him. We've also ridden with the "big side" folded down and the small seat normal when riding with 3 people. He's got plenty of room to sprawl.

He seems to prefer my wife's 4 door Jeep more lately though....not sure why

Pretty sure it's a lost cause in terms of curtailing dog hair from getting inside the truck. Hell I find more of my wife's hair in my vehicles than I do in hers!

She did mention getting a full "executive" detailing package done ahead of my birthday/hoping to have a full set of seat covers by then, but that'll lead me down another dedicated thread on that subject...

    stuff
I've started putting a large rectangle dog bed on top of the moving blanket for her on longer trips. I realized the blanket just wasn't thick enough with the plastic under it.

Oh yeah, the dog hair is a loosing battle I gave up on a while ago. I guess its the price I pay for having white husky and dark interior.

While this thread is good, if you really want an massive thread and help with getting convinced to get another pup check this one out https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/lets-see-your-dogs.2844/ :D
Heres a recent one from maybe last week of my boys. My 2yr old is in his favorite spot under my desk while his 1 yr old brother decided nap close by. The 1yr old pup tends to stay a little farther away so if the 2yr old gets up the litte guy can get a running "surprise attack" on him to start the play.

I am in the process of purchasing a Bernese Mountain Dog. I have the seat cover thing taken care of with a Duluth Trading Company Scout's Mobile Mudroom (a hammock). Do your big dogs have problems getting into the back seat? My last dog only weighed forty pounds. No problem helping him. The new boy in town might way up to 90 pounds. That could be a problem. I'm an old guy with a "tender" back. My truck is a double cab and it is not lifted.

I use a backpack blower to blow dog hair out of my truck..works pretty well if you have leather/pleather seat covers

Is the new dog a puppy still ? If it small you might need to help . Most active and healthy dogs can jump higher than we think . I have owned Great Danes and they have jumped fences I doubted the could . Dogs tend to do this just prove us wrong :)

Both of my rotties will jump directly onto a platform in the back of the access cab. On a ~3" lift on 33s.

Yep...still a puppy. Been there, had that happen. Not only that some can climb fences.:)

I do have a ramp that we bought for our golden retrievers. It is cumbersome and the goldens wouldn't use it when we tried it.

Dogs n horses don't like fake man made under their feet. The full size cab will make is easier for the Mt Dog.

I never had one but have friends that do. Very nice creatures .

My Dane jumped a fence over 6 feet high in a bound, to play with a neighbor 3 legged dog. The first time was an 'issue' as my neighbors didn't know me, or my dog. They called the cops, who did know me, and knew it was my dog.
After that it was no problem when he would go there anymore. My dogs name was champ a name given to him by previous owners, but if I had my way I would have named him Houdini, because he could escape any collar harness arraignment I could dream up .
