Not trying to be an @ss, but I asked a direct question(s) re: tree sap, bird $shit, and paint chips. Can you give a direct answer? Assuming of course that you are simply trying to help people make an informed decision....

The sales guy didn't say if it was an Xpel wrap and I didn't ask what brand. If a wrap is going to be warranted for 10 years, regardless of price, I think I will look into it if I still have the truck in 8-10 years and am looking for a paint refresh. And then get graphics to cover chips.

I once had some thick 3M clear plastic on old style rectangular H4 headlights and I still had a flying stone crack the lens.

Tree sap, bird shit all come out. If a rock is big enough nothing is stopping it, common sense.

 

With rubbing alcohol apparently. Makes me wonder if you ever parked under a tree....you'd be buying rubbing alcohol by the gallon.

 

You have another option. You can have nano coating applied to the Xpel. The nano coating prevents the bonding of tree sap and bird crap. Google nano coating and read up on it.

Each authorized Xpel dealer has a sample of a piece of Xpel, wire brush and a heat lamp. You rub the wire brush on the sample film, turn on heat lamp and you see those scratches disappear. Go to your local dealer and see it with your own eyes.

Completely unrelated, but had some expensive 'self healing' roofing underlayment done on my new house last year and it turned out being bunk. Being a life long sales guy and going on my second new roof in 12 months, you'll have to forgive my skepticism.

 

Take the time and see it with your own eyes. Any Xpel dealer will have the sample and wire brush.

All I can think about is laughing at everyone around here who gets their Audi or Tesla PPF’d for $8k (or more) to protect $1k in value when they turn their lease back in after a few years. Or even better, those people who buy do it only to have it rot out in 10 years from all the salt. Who knows... maybe OP lives in the a southwest where the sun is the greater enemy without the road salt and PPF actually makes sense. It’s their money so fuck it.

Damn, nice man. Installer looks like they did a hell of a job. I've had various areas of my vehicles covered with PPF over the years, but haven't had the money to do the entire vehicle. Impressive when it's done properly.

I've had bird shit, sap, tar and other stuff end up on the PPF and have never had to use alcohol to get it off. Has always come off with relative ease during a wash. That being said, I didn't let it sit on there for weeks.

 

Thanks man. Look into nano coating on the areas you don’t have PPF, prevents bonding to the paint. Another vehicle I track has PPF and gets a lot of “clack” from the bits of rubber shaved off the tires. All that crap comes off with rubbing alcohol. Would be a nightmare to get that burned build up of rubber of the rear quarters and wheel wells.

 

Should have gotten the quick sand and wrapped it in matte vinyl.
