@OmegaMan73 X2 for AHS, I'm not moving from them either. Like @OnePuttBlunder mentioned, they will fulfill exactly what is in the contract, as long as you are clear on that, then you should be good. Just watch out for when the companies that they send out try and scam you on the "non-covered" items.

I really need a swamp cooler for the garage... any recommendations for a good indoor/outdoor one that could keep about ~400 ish square feet of garage acceptably temperate?

Speaking from experience throwing 10+ lbs of ice in with the water makes a big difference for a bit. Other than that if you want comfortable I'd find something for 600-800 sq feet vs the 400 you want.

    Workin' on it....
Is there a way to tell a soft water bib from a regular? We have a water softener being on a well but I have no clue if the outside faucets are plumbed from the water softener or not (pipes disappear into the wall).

I guess it would have to be just in the way it is plumbed in. In the front of my house I have two faucets. I just know what it what out there because we just had the softener installed when we bought the house. Not sure I would know if it was here before we moved in.

Does anyone know a good locksmith? I need to have the ignition switch looked at in the Z.

Most homes have a single feed line, which means all your connections inside and out are feed from the same main feed. So if your softener is at your feed you should be safe to say everything is treated.

You could taste test it if your really curious.

Make your own, tons of videos on it. Put like three in the garage and your good to go.
Plus you can do a famous write up on it!

I would never recommend a home warranty. If you need a new unit it will be covered under the manufacture warranty fully for a couple of years and partially after that. Save your money. AC units lifespan is around 12 years, unlike the past. I replaced my unit 2.5 years ago at $4000 for a 5 ton unit. Your price sounds a little high, and all units on roofs require a crane, it costs about $150 so not a huge part of the bill. Much of the cost is related to the seer rating of the unit.

Only downside to the ac warranty itself as I just went threw this about 2 years ago, is that they normally only cover parts and not labor, so the $500 worth of parts and such they replaced cost me $1800 because of labor.

These are good if you are sitting like he is. If you plan on working in the garage it's not gong to help much. I have one of these and it still struggles like hell when the outside temps get above 100. I have a 3 car garage with a good size fan also moving air. I'm still sweating like a blind lesbian at a fish market.

The unit I had on my house was 28 years old! So I can't complain too much. I bought this house 10 years ago and have replaced the evap coil on that unit 3 years ago. The replacement unit is a 14 seer by carrier. It will come with a 10 year parts and compressor warranty as well as a 5 year labor and thermostat install.

 Blind lesbian... you crack me up.

I’m not sure if I should get one that I can hook up to the hose or if I should get a tank style one so I can throw ice in there. I’m gonna guess the water coming out of my hose will get fierce hot during the summer anyways, considering I don’t even have to run the water heater when I take a shower in the afternoon to get uncomfortably hot water.

I just use a garden hose and the water gets cooled down pretty good because of all the airflow. The reason I got this big bastard on wheels is so I can roll it in my backyard and use it to keep my bedroom/house cool before the AC gets kicked on. I didn't run my AC until the middle of June thanks to the swamp cooler. Portables are also great for parties. Hell it goes to Country Thunder with me.
