    ...stuff
I went down hard last month, washed out on a berm going down a hill, flew over the berm, flew over a creek, and crashed in to the sandy bank on the opposite side. That made my bike stop immediately and I went OTB. Luckilyy ribs broke my fall on a rock garden.

My girl dragged me to the ER for he night because I couldn’t sleep. Nothing broken, but it sure felt like it. Pain is gone now but now I’m getting that chunky productive cough that happens when you can’t breath well.

I’m thinking I need a ride to clear it all out :anonymous:

Ahem... some of us are... multi-disciplined.

Road riding/training builds an aerobic base that simply cannot be duplicated on a mountain bike unless you live out in the barren midwest where trails and gravel can go for miles and miles. The MTB riding adds a layer of quick reaction, situational awareness, and bike handling skills that cannot be duplicated on the road... they exist in balance with one another and each contributes skills to the other that could not be gained otherwise.

Ride all bikes, any bikes... just ride!

While I have never and do not plan to road ride, I have entertained the notion of gravel riding (but on a mtn bike of course :D). Although I do agree with your assessment of added balancing of skills and overall fitness.

Thankfully we have gravel/double track dirt trails around here that range into the hundreds of miles like the Pony Express Route and Skyline Drive if you really wanna get your cardio base on.

When you live in a MTB/Singletrack desert... you adapt and overcome. Make do with what you got and make the best out of it until the situation changes. Such that, when I do get to ride MTB; it's all out, all the time.

    Just messing with you.

But I can completely identify. My closest single track thats even remotely worth the drive is still 20+ miles from the house. I utterly hate my current zip code. But until life opens up another opportunity professionally, this shit hole will continue to be home.

Tell me about it. Before marriage and kids I was a bit a vagabond (Georgia, Wyoming, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico). Its been tough to 'settle down.'

Surely you can jailbreak yourself for one long weekend. Easy to say as a young single guy, but sometime you gotta make some "you time". Everyone needs it sometimes.

My buddy @G.T. has offered to let me use his mountain bike to get a feel for it. Trek something in his words, "nothing hardcore, but a mountain bike."

Pretty stoked and grateful. Also got some feedback regarding retailers who let the operator do a check ride to get a feel for what works and doesn't.

Clearly not on you guys' level, but looking forward to get going.
