so this started as a basket case with a titled 1974 CB360 frame and 1973 CB350 engine and tank.

    Currently:

Kickstart only because starter was beyond saving. Bare bones harness with no kill switch and nothing in handle bars other than throttle, brake and clutch.
No horn, no mirrors but has rear brake light switch, Jeep headlight and LED strip tail light.
Slapped on dirt bike muffler (wife said bike was too loud).
Lithium 12 battery. Mikuni carburetors that I have rejetted for my climate, sea level, air filters and exhaust. 160 compression left and right.

Still need more work because idle randomly surges (almost killed myself because it even happens in gear and has no kill switch) and it sometimes stalls when idling warm. Need to go thru fuel tank, replace or clean petcock and probably eliminate all fuel filters because they restrict flow too much. Then double, triple and quadruple check valve lash and ignition timing again. Then plug chops, they foul up pretty quickly currently

Missed it until you linked it in the moto thread. I'll bite. I have a '79 XS750 that has been pushed to the corner of my shop until I get tired enough of it being in my way to finish it. I'm going for a café/street tracker vibe. You know, something I can hurt myself on so right about the same as you.

Sweet! Is that a twin engine also? Don’t know much about the 750 but I’ve been keeping an eye out for a 70’s xs650. The lines on that bike are just so nice. Perfect for open frame minimalistic brat builds

All buttoned up AND drumroll... I have a plate and registration. My insurance company thinks it’s all stock :D

Also, after re-setting valve lash compression is 180 on both sides. PERFECT! Sounds soooo awesome

It’s a triple so a bit wider and heavier. But yeah, once I removed the air box, battery tray, and spaghetti wiring, the open frame made everything look so much better.

Never heard the sound of a triple I don’t think. What a beast, must have a different frame than the 650 then.
I come from dirt bikes so even this 350/360 feels like a pig to me

It’s a deep rumbly hum. Kind of like an idling subie. It’s the bike I learned to ride on so it’s all I really knew. I’m a v-twin guy now so it’s a completely different noise altogether. Haha.
