I left this out of my post because I didn’t own my Crosstrek for long. I took it on one off-road camping trip thinking it would be able to handle most of what I did and I was wrong. I started shopping for my Tacoma immediately after coming home. The Crosstrek is an amazing snow and commuter car but it is outclassed on the off roading I do, especially since I travel alone a lot.

Well over a 100 cars and trucks, the latest being a 2018 GMC 2500 SLT that i still have. Bought the Tacoma as a 130 mi a day commuter to save the GMC.

Miss my old 4runner. Very fun to drive, and never had any problems with it. Probably the best looking SUV ever made IMO.

    Stock and staying that way
A guy at work gave me shit for keeping the 18 year old Pontiac in the garage and parking the $40k Tacoma outside .

The reason is simple .I'm keeping the Trans Am for life. It can't really be replaced. It is the car my now deceased father and I raced together, and they aren't making any more Pontiacs .

The Tacoma can and will be replaced. It is waxed with sealant enough to keep Sun damage to a minimum, and is just a truck.

I hated it after the first time I drove in the snow.
It left me disappointed in a bad snow storm one winter traveling from Michigan to Ohio. Semis and trucks were almost rear ending me on the highway because I couldn’t drive over 30-40mph without it ghost walking all over the freeway. I’ve never owned a vehicle that was that terrible on snow at speeds.
I didn’t even own it a year and sold it. Had less than 20k miles and drank a quart of oil every 3k Miles.
Right after I sold it the cam position sensor went out if it I was told.

Usually the Subarus don't drink oil for the first 50K miles or if you run Mobile1 with a turbo they drink like an alcoholic.

Thank you! Wish I still had the Evo, Cobra and one of the Lightnings. Can't keep them all unfortunately.

Oh that is interesting, I only had the opportunity to drive mine once in snow, and I was comfortable in it. Although I'll defer to the guy in Ohio about that!
As far as oil consumption, on mine the recommenced oil change intervals were 6k miles, I pulled into the shop at 6.5k and they did the oil change and the guy comments how there is almost not a spec of oil left. I was shocked. You really do have to add a quart of oil to these every couple of months.
I owned mine for 9k miles. I'm sticking with trucks here on out, so at least I learned that.

    I think my list is:
    1992 Nissan 240sx
2001 Subaru Forester (lowered then lifted it)
1985 VW Vanagon (biggest regret was selling it)
    2007 Subaru Forester

And now I’m left with my 1981 VW Rabbit and my Tacoma

The bmw was definitely a fun car to drive but the Tacoma suits my lifestyle way better. Don’t think I could go back to driving a car as my daily now.

    Just the last 2.5 years:

    2016 4R SR5
    2014 Lexus IS350
    2018 Crosstrek
2019 WRX STI (novelty wore off quick)
    2019 Tacoma OR DCSB.

I had an FJ years ago and it was a great vehicle. Thought the 4R would be similar, but with room for kids. Really didn’t care for it. Tried to do the car thing for a bit, then wanted a car I could take on fire-roads to go shoot. Got tired of the Crosstrek and got a new STI. Sweet car, but annoying to drive. Mainly because everyone wants to race you everywhere you go and I can only go 35mph for my whole commute anyway.

The Tacoma is perfect. Room for the kids, off-road goodies, Etc.
