Low voltage cut out/alarm?

Maybe this is a stupid question maybe not. let's see. So I swore I've read on here about low voltage shut offs or disconnects where when your battery drops to low will shut off all the power. I've tried to search for it on here and the internet but I haven't came across anything that looked like what I was looking for. ( I also don't know what I'm looking for either) maybe I'm phrasing it wrong. When I Google "low voltage cutoff" I see these little boxes but I can't see how that would work. Do I the that into a solenoid or something? Any comments would be helpful.

You're looking for something that cuts off the battery from accessories and such before you lose the ability to start the vehicle?

While I'm still planning my second battery to handle stuff like that, maybe it's more appropriate to have a good jumper battery pack when you get this low. I know that doesn't answer the question entirely, but something to consider.

Or are you looking for the factory option to do that? Like does your Taco shut off power to things before it gets too low?

What you described first is exactly what I was thinking about. I had thought about a jumper pack as well. I plan to get one. I have a optima yellow currently. I had a red top before in a different car that had a short in it and it took forever to jump it. Long story short, I heard that once optimas are discharged they are hard to recover. I rather prevent a problem than be stranded and out of luck.

 

I was looking those up last night and that really seems to be the only type there is. The reviews aren't so great on it either.

 

Well I was going to recommend one but long live https://mp3car.com/ (not worth clicking), they used to sell a pretty cool device that would let you set a low voltage threshold and when that was crossed it could either drop power to your device or cycle a relay.

 

I came across a blue sea one that looked more dependable. It is a timer and a low voltage cut off you can choose. The voltage cut off can be adjusted in .5 Increments. Like 12.5, 12, 11.5, 11. Idk if 11.5 is too low though.

 

Oh also I forgot about this https://www.altronix.com/products/LPD, im not sure where you can buy one though. They are usually only sold at B2B security distributors but there might be one on ebay.

I’ve came across ones like that but in order for that to work in my application would I need to tie it into a solenoid to trigger it off when the voltage drops too low?

 

Couldent the output of this cycle a relay that activates your solenoid?

 

That’s what I was kind of asking. I don’t know how I would have to wire it if I went with something like this. Well I could probably figure out how to wire it I just don’t know all the parts I would need.
