I have a very dumb question lol. I changed my oil a few hours ago and when I was checking the dipstick the oil seems to be slightly above the first dot on the dipstick but I added 5.5 Quarts of oil. Do I need to add more or am I just dumb? :anonymous:

The dipstick’s in these trucks suck. You’re most likely just smearing it when you’re removing it. You’re fine.

Yeah, it’s just odd it’s not reading as full when I clearly put exactly what is called for in it.

Yeah, make sure you put the dipstick ALL the way in to check the level.

I put it at about halfway between the marks.

It’s all the way down, it just isn’t reading up to the second dot for some reason lol

I actually don't really measure how much I put in, maybe the first 5 qts, then I throw some in, check the level, and add until it's at the right level.

Wipe the stick first, then stick it in to measure.

I was doing that, it just always comes out reading slightly above half. I don’t want to overfill it. I can send a photo of it.

I've always seen the 5.5 qts and kind of an estimate anyway. That's really just so you know how many quarts to buy, lol.

Just run it for a few minutes, then add enough to get it to half way between the marks. You'll be fine.

    I have mods
Run for a few minutes, like 2 or 3, just enough to get oil circulating and to fill the oil filter. Shut it down and allow about 5 minutes before checking the level for oil to drain back into the pan.

I fill from a 2 gallon jug so never know exactly how much I put in. I just fill until at or close the the 2nd dot and then follow the above and add as needed to bring it to the 2nd dot again.

I’ll add some more to it if I think it needs some but based on me jus checking it again, it’s at an alright level I think.

Just for the heck of it, look for a Toyota part number on the dipstick. See if it's the right one.
Or, to all those with the same truck, How long
is your dipstick? Then the Op will know if his is ok.

I just checked, it is the correct oil dipstick for my model. It’s just kinda dumb the way they made them imo.

If the truck isn't on perfectly level ground you won't get an accurate reading on the dipstick, at least in my experience

check it again first thing in the morning after it sits all night and the level will probably be a bit higher, but is that because it drains out of the filter?
